Excel Chart Help

Good morning everyone,

I am trying to create a basic line chart with end of year figures for the past 10 years and then on the on the end add end of quarter figures.

So basically I need 31/5/xx all along the bottom of the chart until the final amount which will be 31/3/12.

I have done this every four months for the past 6 years but this morning I seem to be having a "blond" moment and have stuffed it up, I cant get the dates to show 31st only 1st and I cant get March to show up at all (although the ling diagram includes the figures)

I know I have to mess around with the Axis options but having a total blank as to what to change or set them at, any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Definitely going to need to format the axis.

Most simple fix is probably to change the "Axis Type" to "Text Axis" (defaults to "Automatically select based on data" - that fixes it on mine usually when I have a similar issue.

As for March not showing - assume you've extended the axis label to include the new month?

Setting the unit to 'Month(s)' works for me.

Doesn't for me - still defaults to the 1st. Changing the interval to "days" and then 31 works....... until you get to June :)

    Thanks!
OK that worked (even though I am sure I did that earlier various times!!!)
But it has moved my amounts to the right hand side of the chart? and I cant seem to move it back

    Which worked?

Not sure what you mean when you say it's moved the amounts to the right hand side?

This fixed my problem with not being able to see March and all my dates are along the bottom where they should be = result!:T
But on doing this, the figures (amounts) have moved from the left hand side to the right hand side of the chart for no apparent reason, and I cant seem to move it back without losing my dates ...........sometimes Excel just does my head in:(

I should have added that I also set the minimum value to 31/05/2008. Subsequent values were then the correct end of month dates (irrespective of how many days in each month).

Do you mean the marker points have moved from the left to the right of each date, the legend has moved, the Y axis has switched sides, or that all of the data now doesn't align with the dates?

    Or something completely different?

Would suggest just doing select data and reselecting both data, and axis labels as a starting point!

I tried this a few times but it didn't seem to work, I'm starting to get annoyed with it now lol

Doing that still defaults to the 1st on mine? Very strange.

Only way that mine fixes is by switching to text labels, which doesn't impact on anything else either.

    Excel 2010 btw.
