Anyone out there a "career" mystery shopper out there? Just wondering if anyone could advise me if there is real money to be made from MSing. Have signed up with lots of co.s but all the fees seem pretty low. I appreciate I need to find my own way but can anyone recommend the best co. to sign up with?

katty - work hard, work often, build up good relationships with allocators (people who phone you up) and take regular jobs/audit work if you can!

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker Savvy Shopper!
But market research on the other hand earns more money and I know a few people I work with work with several companies. The way in though is to be recommended by someone who does that work already.

Not totally true, some of us can and do make a decent living from it!

not from msing only though? it will be the auditing work and other jobs which are not advertised to everyone, (ie you are selected)

I recently had issues with my phone line and had to enquire if there was another way to send it and was told no. Ended up using a neighbours phone line

Spoke to the super - it appears this system is so particularly antiquated it relies on a single dial-up server to crunch the incoming data, as such it is stand-alone and does not integrate with the web in any meaningful way during the capture process. It was suggested that the cost of upgrading to a more modern system would be prohibitively expensive, and unless the client was prepared to make such an investment (or agree to a considerable extension to the contract) the company would continue to make use of the existing technology.

Shame, really. As our smart-phones have more technology that these dinosaur scanners!

I'm inclined to agree. The jobs I now get are well paid and they are negotiated, rather than the recent spate of MS tasks where the rate is plummeting to a few quid, and I simply refuse to take these on. I've not done an MF job for long enough, due to the shortage of work (there used to be loads) but mainly because a job done last year for £5 is now worth only £2-3, and I won't work for buttons.

I have made a living from MS'ing only and could still do so if I chose to.
Yes I do auditing and some other stuff too which is a natural progression once your reputation builds. However that comes and goes like the MS work does so if it were to disappear I would still survive
