Received Tax Credit / Don't Think I am Entitled to it

our earnings for that year was £33,000.0

Do you have any disabilities or childcare costs included?
If not, there could be many reasons, maybe an underpayment from 2011/12 once you had declared your income?
Although you didn't receive a letter from HMRC, it sounds very much like your renewal has just finalised your 11/12 and isn't acting as a 12/13 claim. It sounds like your claim has actually lapsed. Maybe the letter got lost in the post.
I would ring the helpline and check whether your claim is still active for 12/13 and they should be able to tell you what the £49 relates to. But it is most likely a payment from 11/12 rather than a one for 12/13. Either that or they have your information wrong so they think you are entitled.

Well we already know we are not entitled to it because of doing the calculations on their site. I will have to ring them if its not my money to use I don't want to keep it! My friends child tax was messed up last year and they were told it would right itself but they now owe back £800 - I don't want to be in this situation. Thank you.0
