School appeals - help offered

JC9297 - In answer yes I do think so.
Flea72 - I didn't 'slag' your post off, I said to ignore the non-hearing part.
You can suspect that I work for a company or, alternatively, you can suspect that I am working on my own appeal and am therefore not an expert and my info would only be relevant to anyone with a non-hearing child.
But, I apologise about the comment. It wasn't meant to be a personal attack.
Regarding the one post thing - I was reading through this forum for any guidance and I saw the lady's post and thought I could specifically help her. Next time I'll just read through and not bother....0 -
Hi, My daughter is due to start school in September 2011. We applied for a CofE school which is literally 50 yards from our house. We have been refused a placement here and have requested school to give us full reason why but they are taking a while to get back to us on this. We do think the problem is that my husband is Catholic and I am CofE but we are non church goers. We do know from most of the parents in our area that they register at the local church just to get into the school and then very rarely go to worship! We have been honest with school to say we are lapsed worshippers. We are appealing and have to get our appeal forms back in by May 16th. Does any one have any advice on how we can best go about this and on what grounds of appeal. Many thanks0

As others have said in different posts, you need to know that the criteria are for gaining a place and the reason why you didnt get a place before you can go any furthur. Do you have a copy of the selection criteria.0 -

For a lot of faith schools the admision criteria is you have to have been regularly to the church for a minimum of 2 years prior to application and the vicar has to sign a form to this effect - have you checked the specific details of the criteria?0 -

I was hoping you might explain your reasoning for believing it is relevant as most people don't think it would be taken into consideration.
You say you have a non-hearing child and you are preparing an appeal, is yours regarding the non-hearing child, or a sibling also?0 -
so what are the selection criteria for the school? as you need to find out on what grounds (other than class size) that you werent allocated a place, and where you are on the waiting list
the hearing problems of your other child will have no bearing on the appeal process, in what way do you think they might?
is the school split into infants and juniors? is so, this might be another reason why you were declined a place, as you wont fall under the sibling rules

besides the poster says she has a child in yr 2 which is an infant year.Signature removed for peace of mind0

yes, but if that child is now in year 2, they will be in year 3 when the next one is due to start, and year 3 is juniors. If the schools do make a split, that could rule out the sibling advantage.0

this is the main reason why its best to put all information you have, into posts, rather than PMing it to one specific person.
all it means is that in the future, someone like yourself will stumble across this forum, but still not be able to find the help they need, as to all intent purposes, its a secret, aimed one one person
if your own appeal plans work, then it makes even more sense to make it general knowledge, because as yet i have more luck getting a decision overturned due to technicalities/clerical errors (thankfully the LA make lots), than someones medical/social needs, which have all been refused

That's not always the case. Mine attend(ed) seperate infant and junior schools and on the admission form it states that a child at a linked school (such as Juniors) also counts as a sibling criteria, besides the poster says she has a child in yr 2 which is an infant year.
hence why i asked if the school operates separate infant and junior schools - not all schools are linked, alot are run as stand alone units
one word of caution though, i have known people who have got caught out when the youngest child is due to move to juniors. their eldest child has moved onto secondary, and they are then refused a place in the junior school, as they no can longer use the sibling rule
