If they recieved the forms on 18th January and have only just sent the letter out, then it would seem unlikely that as of 18th January they had already allocated all places? Given the circumstances it seems very unfair that you have not got a place if they are stating that it is only because of a late application. I would be inclined to email or write to them (paper trail), and ask for their policy on recieving late applications and stress again, that you sent it on time etc and were not aware that it hadn't been recieved.

The book by Ben Rooney on 'how to win your childs appeal' may be helpful. I have a copy upstairs I'll go and have a look and see if it mentions later applications.

I have just ordered this book - can't wait for it to arrive, although not expecting a miracle I am being realistic! x

Cant find the book at the minute, must still be in the garage waiting to be unpacked (only moved in two years ago!). Will look in the morning. As an aside, I completed my sons primary application online as I thought it would eliminate the possibility of lost post etc. I still recieved a letter a few weeks ago stating that I had not returned my form. When I emailed to tell them I'd done it online back in December, they said there had been a fault with the system and a load of online applications hadn't registered on their system properly!, No method seems to be foolproof!

Hi Alm721, thank you for all your advice and as you say it does seem that no method is reliable!

Hi I really need some help with my infant school appeal. I am represneting myself in our case. Basically my son has been refused a place at the church school where he attend's nursery and has been for the last year. This is also the school that both of my daughters attend ( in years and 2 and 6) however based on the infant school size predudice he has been refused a place. I would like any help you can give me at that could help my case. As currently I will be starting the September term with my familt split between two school not ideal at all. Also in the equation is the fact that we are practising Christians and this is a faith school which apprently we are out of the catchment arera for however we are also out of catchment for the other faith school in our area too, I just cant work it out.
I f anyone can give me advise as to how I can figth my appeal I would be very grateful. My year 2 child also has hearing loss and wears a hearing aid so I didnt know if we could appeal based on mitigating circumstances??

so what are the selection criteria for the school? as you need to find out on what grounds (other than class size) that you werent allocated a place, and where you are on the waiting list

the hearing problems of your other child will have no bearing on the appeal process, in what way do you think they might?

is the school split into infants and juniors? is so, this might be another reason why you were declined a place, as you wont fall under the sibling rules

    Hi,

I have sent you a PM. Please check.

With all due respect, ignore the previous poster in regards to your non hearing child.

Why do you say ignore the previous poster? I cannot see how the sibling's hearing problems would have any bearing on the child's application and would not expect it to be taken into account, however you obviously think (or know) differently.

I'm not sure that that's particularly relevant: I could be wrong but I didn't think that anyone had the right to attend a faith school (actually as parents really we only have the right to express a preference, rather than an actual choice!)

That is your starting point: what are the criteria, were they correctly applied to you and to others?

I agree: the year 2 child has their place, the only 'relevance' their hearing problems might have would be that it might not be appropriate (even assuming it was possible) to move that child to whichever school the youngest has been offered a place at. But generally, the fact that siblings might end up at different schools isn't a strong ground for appeal, even if it would cause difficulty getting them all to the right school on time.

, if you can only impart your information via PM, rather than being of assistance to all members of this forum, then one can only suspect that you work for a company that 'helps' people appeal, and are trying to circumnavigate the spam sensors.
