Got our date today, 28th April @ 15.00

When should I submit my FULL statement?0 -
I have just trawled through all 15 pages of this very informative thread! seems there are many many parents out their in the same awful situation. our child hasn't been allocated a school at all for year 7 as we didnt fit with the criteria of any of the 6 schools listed on our form, even though the furthest was just 3 miles away.
"yus786", its my understanding that you must submit all relevant information in enough time for the panel to consider your statement, that said, it has been impressed upon me by those in the know that you must not rush preparation of the statement, or allow yourself to be rushed. what is the deadline for receipt of your statement? I have submitted my initial in-depth statement, and will respond further once i have received the case from the
admissions board of the school. there are some very knowledgeable "posters" on this site though, i would be guided by them.0 -

I have no date on my hearing letter. I have actually submitted my initial in-depth statement too, but will wait for their case before i expand on it.
What are your reasons?0 -
following advice from our GP we are appealing for our most local all girl school on medical grounds. it's just horrible for the children, having to feel this much stress at such a young age. the general problem isn't just that there aren't enough good schools for our kids, its that there simply aren't enough school places at all in some cases.0

Totally agree Hugh. I went through this last year and it was the most stressful thing I have ever done. I do hope you succeed.
Thank you Bunty, I think we'll need it.
Having thought this through for the last few weeks I've come to the conclusion that unless you have found a case of maladministration, or your child has special needs (my son has dyspraxia but doesn't have a statement so this will not have any bearing), or an extremely powerful argument why your child should be allowed to attend an oversubscribed school of your preferance ( ie not difficult transport reasons, not reasons relating to your child's aptitude, not because the allocated school is rubbish and not because the preffered school isn't) then you are on a hiding to nothing, simple.
I doubt we'll be successful, I seriously do, though I have to give it my best shot. The only advice I would give to any parent heading toward this particular trapdoor in life is look at the schools a whole year before you are invited to, or need to. Do all your research on likely catchment a whole year before and then you have that time in which to move away from your local underachieving 'youth club' and near to a school that takes education seriously, if you care enough about it that is.0 -
Hi, first post, so be kind!
My wife and I are looking to lodge an appeal for a place at the local primary school for our daughter (0.2 miles away).
Our son is already at the school but his sister is on a waiting list and has been for over a year.
In September she will move to Year 3, which I believe doesn’t have a restriction on class sizes, so we are planning to appeal.
Our daughter’s school is about 3 miles away, so drop off and pickup is a nightmare and very stressful, we have to use breakfast clubs just so we can get them to school on time. Also we’re unable to walk our son most days, as we need a car to rush away and drop our daughter off. So the benefits of a local school are lost. Also our son is being assessed for Aspergers, so the constant rushing around and lack of structure is causing him stress also. After school clubs are also an issue logistically.
We’ve just purchased ‘Your School Your Choice’ hoping it gives us some tips but any advice would be greatly appreciated. The main area we are struggling with is the timescales we need to follow. The local authority (Cheshire) wasn’t sure when I called them about when we should appeal, after some time on the phone they suggested May, but still wasn’t very convinced with the information they gave me!
Thanks again for any help!0 -
Hi Yus 786
Would you be able to forward me a link for the ACE document - I can't find it on the website.
Many thanks

our transferring schools booklet lists
criterion 2
children without a SEN whose school placement has been identified by multi-agency
professional team, and can be supported by written evidence at time of application
This critera comes before brothers and sisters attending so i would try this one as i was told a number of years ago (8) that welfare of child took precedence. Just sent my appeal form back with grounds to follow and working on it!!!
Good luck Susan Bevan
PS we moved last year school over subscribed, so still in the same position Appealing :eek:Susie0070
