It seems his isn't the place for consumer rights questions, merely virtual kudos gaining "Thanks" for members profile advancement. I give up, they (the members) win, I have more interesting things to be doing.
Well, I think this is a good place for consumer rights questions because, as you say, there wasn't any illegal collusion going on so, unfortunately, you don't have any rights to stop price hikes. As you've been advised.
Anyway, if there's no collusion, just buy from the cheapest supplier! Problem solved!0

But, in the wider scheme of things, many people don't have those choices. With one or two large conglomerates strangling the market, many consumers are left with little choice but to go to the diminishing number of retailers left.
Not sure where you live, but where I live and in every town or city i've ever visited you have dozens of shops and supermarkets. Tesco are not the only choice consumers have, even if they are usually the most convenient (but that's a choice for the consumer to make).
Also doesn't change the fact Green Tea is not a necessity so op does have a choice as to whether to buy it or not.0

It wasn't advice you wanted, because when you got that you didn't like it. You just wanted people to agree with you unfounded opinion.0

Store OwnersWhat you need to be wary of is that large supermarket chains will update their prices often daily, so if you buy tomatoes on Monday for 69p a pack, you might find that by Friday (when you buy some more without looking at the price label) they will be £1. They all do this - Tesco, Sainsbury's , M&S etc., and will attempt to disguise it my claiming that products are "on offer" when this is not the case. Simply, I now check very carefully the price of every product before I buy it, and although this makes my weekly shop take around half an hour longer than previously, I manage to avoid these cynical price variations. Bear in mind that they are all out to rip you off.
Another tactic is to gradually stop selling products on which little margin is made. In my local Tesco everybody wants to buy the 9-pack of "Spring force" bog roll, but this sells out by noon leaving only more expensive loo rolls for sale. When this happens I go straight to ASDA instead, as the price difference is usually at least £2 for a pack.0

There I was thinking this site was for advice. Silly me.
You didn't want my opinion, however you created an online poll....
 As in an "opinion" poll...
 Words fail me.
My advice (what this site is for, apparently...) is that you not only stay out of supermarkets, but you should also stay away from your computer in future.0
