Breakdown down cover

Although l don't know the answer to your question l thought l would share my thoughts and opinion about breakdown cover.
My view is that cover is best via either the AA or RAC as you can get the Home Relay service whereas with companies such as Greenflag they are from local garages and they may only take you to the nearest garage.
Apart from the well known issues of trying to sell you batteries etc for commission purposes the AA / RAC will at least spend even up to an hour trying to fix the problem at the roadside, some of the other companies have a 30 minute deadline and if not fixed within that time they recover you to their garage (unless of course you have the option of being taken to a dealers under your warranty) and you then may be obliged to pay possible inflated costs for repairs.
I much prefer to know that both me and the car will get home and for me then to have a wider choice of whom repairs my car.
Also, don't forget to check out the Cash Back Sites0 -

Autoaid, see post above for link.

I don't think any breakdown service do repairs. The best you get is a temporary fix to get you moving, or a tow to garage/destination/home.0 -
I did some research on this last year and ended up with Gem Motoring Assist on the reclaim policy.Google gives you answers use it.........0

RAC do repairs, They replaced a clutch slave cylinder on a rangerover. Even took me to the garage to purchase it.
I guess it depends on the fault.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Perfectly fine if you have a few hundred quid kicking around in case you have a breakdown, kind of negated the need for a breakdown policy if you have such funds kicking around, no?
How much would it cost in cash for a 200 mile recovery / relay, quite a sum to have 'just in case'
IMO for the majority of people a policy that covers it all without the need to pay upfront is a much better option, yes they may be a few quid more expensive, but its a lot less hassle.0 -

Where a customer also has recovery the breakdown service often carry out a cost/benefit analysis, especially if the customer is requesting a long distance recovery which could end up costing the breakdown service many hundreds of pounds.
It is not unknown in such circumstances for breakdown services to authorise repairs that take 4 hours or more. (again parts would usually be charged for)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... ....
Not necessarily required. Most people have a credit card; they can stick the cost on there and, if they make a prompt claim will get the refund from AutoAid in time to pay the credit card company before interest charges accrue.
Many AutoAid customers have also asked for a garage to invoice them for the amount involved. (AutoAid will assist in finding such a garage willing to do this if asked) Some who use this method say they have then made a prompt claim to AutoAid, got the refund and used that refund to pay the invoice (which often would have 28 days to pay)"Now to trolling as a concept. ....
