Question from Latvia!!

Hi. Hope that someone can help me out quickly but I need help. I have just started Selling on E-bay and and have been asked how much to send a package to Latvia. This is in the European Union and the buyer has 100% feed back and been a member since Dec 06. The package weighs approx 760grms. Ive looked for the price on Royal Mail and sussed that out but has any body got experience of sending china abroad. The auction finishes in about 1 hr so I've got to get back to them soon Thanks for any help.
Nice to save.

This person has also asked for a bigger photo, but it doesnt seem to me that I can upload 1 onto the E-bay response form. The only way round this, that I can see, is to get his personal E-mail address and send it direct from me which would mean that he has mine. In the postage he is allso asking for for insured shipping, would "airsure" be ok?Nice to save.0

An alternative to letting them have your email address now if you're concerned is to quickly create a photobucket.com account and upload a picture there - give the buyer the link to the picture. I know they may only have just seen your product, but it's cutting it close to expect pictures just before the bid closes but if you can help, I think it's always best to try and achieve the sale.
I have no experience of sending breakables abroad but as long as you have the correct packaging materials and the insurance, I'm not sure what more you can do wherever you send to.
Best wishes.0 -
Sorry, Airsure isn't right as Latvia is not one of the 27 countries listed if you read the Royalmail site.
Andorra, Austria, Azores, Balearic Islands, Belgium, Canary Islands, Corsica, Denmark, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Madeira, Monaco, Netherlands, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Slovak Republic, Spain, Spitzbergen, Sweden and Switzerland.
You can only use International signed and need to add on sufficient compensation cover (up to £250/£500 depending on location). http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/jump2?mediaId=400035&catId=400033
"You can use International Signed For™ to send items up to 2kg (books and pamphlets up to 5kg) but no single side must be longer than 60cm, whilst the length, plus depth, plus width must not exceed 90cm."0 -
Thanks for the advise. I've got a photobucket acc allready so could do that. What link would I have to send and would you have any idea how to explain to them!!!Nice to save.0

I would be careful if you decide to use International Signed For.PayPal wrote:Royal Mail does not officially provide online tracking (with proof of delivery) for the International Signed For service. In some instances however, delivery details may be available online. If these details map to the buyer's postal address shown on the Transaction Details page, PayPal may consider it as sufficient proof of delivery. However, since availability of delivery details cannot be predicted, sellers may not be able to rely on this method for proof of delivery in order to be covered by PayPal's Seller Protection Policy.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

Since Airsure is no good for Latvia (didn't know this before looking at the list of countries), International Signed For is the only option with adequate compensation (presuming it's not under £32) when you look at RM's website.
As for the link, just tell them to click the link you're sending for the bigger picture - send them the URL link listed under the photo via an eBay message, it will look like this: http://xxxx.photobucket.com/albums/xxxx.jpg for example0 -
also make sure its packed really well as you only get compensation for loss of item, not damage...china/ceramics is not covered for damage0

I don't see this mentioned on RM's website for International Signed For - it says they do pay for loss or damage up to whatever you are insured for.
"If your item is lost or damaged in transit, we will pay compensation of up to £32 per item upon production of a copy of the certificate of posting and proof of item value. Extra compensation of up to £250 or up to £500 (depending on the country) is available for an extra charge of £1.50 per item (in addition to the £3.50 International Signed For™ fee). "
It doesn't mention china/ceramics.
Is there somewhere that you read this?0 -
Thanks for all your help but am beginning to wonder if its going to be worth all the trouble as the item is only up for £2.99 and I have no bidders and his is the only question. I dont like loosing out on a sale or disapointing some one but I think there has to be a cut off point somewhere!Nice to save.0

Is there anything I can’t send in a Standard Parcel?
Please don’t send any of the following, as they’re not covered by compensation:

Bearer Bonds
Ceramics such as ornamental and decorative china and porcelain*
Diamonds and other precious stones
Glassware*
Hazardous and dangerous goods
Jewellery (except imitation)
Money - Current bank notes, currency or coins; uncrossed postal orders that do not state the payee's name; cheque or dividend warrant which is uncrossed and made payable to the bearer; bearer security – including a share warrant, script or subscription certificate, bond or relative coupon; unobliterated postage or revenue stamp valid for current use in the British postal area or elsewhere (except a revenue stamp embossed or impressed on an instrument which has been executed); coupon, voucher token card, stamp or similar document which can be exchanged (by itself or with any other document) for money, goods or services; national insurance stamps
Negotiable documents
Prohibited or restricted items
Real fur
Stamps
* Ceramics and glassware are covered for loss but not for damage
