Why do Virgin take so long to port in my number?

I'm waiting for virgin to port my number from orange. I requested it on sunday night so technically Monday is the first normal business day. Virgins website says it takes one working day. Customer services say it will take 48 hrs. First contradiction. So it won't be done til Wednesday morning & apparently I can't use my orange or virgin sim in all that time. (tho i must make sure the virgin sim must be in the handset) Yet the second person I spoke to said I can. Second contradiction. So to be safe i haven't used my orange sim today. Its a bit of a nuisance as i had to use an old mobile phone & for tomorrow but i can get by. Gaff gaff did a port in from orange last Monday for my nephew by 12.45 on the Monday having only been requested by 4pm the previous day (Sunday). I have read some horror stories on here mind u about giffgaff porting in of numbers but ours was brilliant. What experience has anyone had of virgin - have they known it to be done in 24 hrs etc? TIA.

Virgin (Mobile) isn't a real network - they use T-Mobile so they're like all the virtual networks, at the end of the queue. Just keep your fingers crossed.0

I'm not aware of any reason why you cannot use either SIM when waiting for a port. You may just get an interruption in service when the port is taking place, and this usually doesn't take more than an hour to complete. I believe the required SLA for ports is either two or three days, so Virgin are within that.0

It's happened today so I'm v plsd. I think the call handler got his midnights mixed up - I think it happened midnight Monday. He told me it would be midnight tuesday. I had a sneaky suspicion it might transfer today when I reflected on it so overalll not bad. Not as good as giffgaff but not too bad really. Thnx for the info as I didn't know it was tmobile.0 -

Thanks for this. I think u r right. I think the call handler was talking rubbish but I erred on the side of caution. It's ported over now so I'm plsd but it was a big pain. I'm doing Grandmas this Sunday so your view & the experience this week is helpful as I'll let her keep her orange sim in until the Tuesday or until the service is interrupted. Then that's everyone done -me, sis, nephew, grandma! Sis was easy as already with virgin. Nephew with giffgaff was easy, yet others have had a nightmare, so all in all we haven't done too bad!0
