So would you recommend Santander to a friend?

I`ve just edited my post # 5 because it gave the link to the cash ISA instead of the Easy Access E-Saver.

What I like about it is there is no bonus, a minimum of £1 and faster payments to and from the account.

Straightforward and simple.

You are correct, they do have better rates with a 12 month bonus (2.5%) @ 3%, which means you`ll have to move your money when it expires.
If you had £5,000 in that account over 1 year, after tax you would gain £6 over the Virgin account.

I have many savings accounts with a large number of institutions. What I like about the Santander eSaver is that the rate is fairly competitive, there are no withdrawl restrictions and that withdrawls arrive at their destination instantaneously. There are accounts with slightly better rates but many have withdrwal restrictions or you only get your money 'by the close of the following business day' - i.e. they charge you a day's interest. When opening an account that includes a bonus, I always make a diary note to move the money before it expires. Usually the same instition has a new competitive account.
