Hello

Ive spoken to a few people on here who have been great but now im looking for the best place to go for the best interest rate on an easy access savings account. As my ISA is going to be maxed for this year very soon.

Also im only 16 and some are 18 minimum :D

Any help appreciated

Luke

PS, online access would be a pro.

It's difficult to be specific without knowing what else you're looking for.

Best bet is to go to the <MSE Savings> page if you haven't already.

Or try the <Mini Cash ISAs: The Best ISAs currently available List> which many MSE users prefer.

Unfortunately, it will be down to you to check any age requirements for yourself by visiting any sites of interest.

Make sure you are getting the best rate on your ISA.
http://www.moneysupermarket.com/money/ - plenty of information here about on-line accounts etc.
Click on 'savings' then 'search all accounts - you can specify 'on line' - then 'more details' for age criteria on each account.

http://www.money.co.uk/savings-accounts.htm is a comparison site with an unusually large number of filters in the advanced search. The 'Application criteria' section seems to allow the min age to be specified.

The best rate for an easy access account is
2.85% with Virgin Money and 16 is the minimum age.

Derbyshire BS Online Saver 2 pays 3.06% (Min age 16) provided one has £1000 to open it.

Update: "Opening deposit must be by cheque from your nominated UK account". I'm not aware of cheque accounts for 16 year-olds.

I have opened the virgin easy access account you just mentioned but for some reason decided to check on moneysupermaket after i had done it lol and found better rates the best one for me being Santander.

Why cant we just get a big long list of every single savings account and choose which one we want, lol. :D
  • That would take all the fun out of it !

I defo think the Santander one is the best rate around? because the top ones on moneysupermarket are 18 minimum and all the ones above santander are really small banks that are way up north so i would rather have a branch around where i can go to if i have a problem (i know its online access only but if i really had a problem they would have to deal with me lol :)

EDIT: What other comparison sites can i look at?
  • Much of the feeling around here is that problems with Santander are inevitable, and having a nearby branch isn't going to help sort them out !

(I myself have only had a few problems with them, and haven't yet stopped using them.)

I wouldn't hold too much faith in being able to deal with any online account in a branch. They'd probably refer you to phone support. Just need to try to avoid those 0845 numbers (unless they're included in your phone tarif).

I think Virgin was recommended to you because that rate is without a yearly bonus so you do not have to change your account every year when the bonus expires.
If you do not mind having to change yearly then there are more like the Santander one but be aware that the rate could drop to as low as 0.5% which the Santander one does.
