If it is turned off overnight over the air firmware updates would be missed.

Would the sort of person asking this question know that though?

If cost is the issue then surely the small amount of money saved by switching the box off overnight is very insignificant when compared to the cost of subscribing to Sky!

    EDIT Point proved!

Also the small issue that if you turn it off (as in disconnect the power, not leave in standby), of course, you won't be recording any programmes that you've set for overnight - both these issues apply to any PVRs.

Probably not, but isn't that what google is for.

Yes the cost between leaving on standby and on, is extremely small. But some people don't like to leave them on standby.

I've yet to see any model of Sky box that has an on/off switch.

What point is proved? Not everyone who has Sky, subscribes. Some of us have Freesat from Sky! ;)

My Panasonic does. Or one could switch off at the socket ;).

Anyhow the thing that put me off switching it off at night is that one has to go through the delay next day while it 'searches for listings'.
