Netflix and broadband limit

I am on the basic monthly payment thing with Plusnet and can get upto 10GB per month and after that I have to pay more - currently averaging 7GM per month.
OH wants to try Netflix on the free month's trial. Given that this will be a novelty and that he likes films
- have you any idea how much this will add onto my 10GB ? Should I up the subscription to the next level or just pay extra if we go over? How much would films add on?
Sorry hope this makes sense!

there is a video quality setting within netflix.
good quality 0.3 gb per hour
better quality 0.7 gb per hour
best quality 1gb per hour or 2gb for HD
so if OH likes the HD films, then 10gb would be about 3 average length films in HD. So all depends on how much you want to muchMansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
If you join Netflix you can go to your account online and lower the quality hence lowering the amount of your limit used. I would personally give it a try. I like the service and I doubt you will use that much over the 3GB you have left unless you start watching HD quality stuff. I watch SD lower quality and it's fine. As good as normal freeview standard.0

I don't think he would need HD, the lower quality would do him. (heheh) Thanks for that as I had no idea how much it would take extra.0

personally i would phone plusnet and speak to them about upgrading to the next package (if you can afford it) as that would be cheaper than paying for the additional after the fact as its what £5 a month more for an extra 50gb in package or you pay £5 for each 5gb more out of the package
although you should make sure they do not tie you into another 12 month contract otherwise it could end up costing you more in the long runDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -

In my experience (and I've changed packaged with Plus a few times over the years), they never tie you in after the initial contract period unless you ask them for new hardware (although it's always wise to confirm this).
Unfortuantely, Plus stoppped selling their unlimited service (and hiked the price for existing subscribers) and current packages top out at 60GB. As I now have iPlayer and Sky Anytime+ and a Sling box for when I travel, I anticipate having to switch ISPs sometime in the not too distant future. There's love in this world for everyone. well thats good that they usualy change with no further hassle.
as to the limits, personally i couldnt move back to a limited service (*currently on Sky unlimited but will see what happens when i can get FTTC) and i know i get through many 100s of gb every month due to streaming services
for example Netflix in our house (5 of us) will quite often be being played on 2 devices at once in the best/HD quality (depending on if the program is available in hd) so when added together that might easily be 6 hours a day at between 1-2gb an hour (so say 10gb a day or 300gb a month)and then i have got everything else running file back ups, Sky anytime+, iplayer, game downloads etc etc i am probably easily looking at 400-500+gb a monthDrop a brand challenge

I've considered Sky for that very reason, but posters on these forums generally seem not to rate Sky as an ISP. How do you find them? There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

it depends on which on you get,
sky currently do 2 (3 if you count FTTC but that works the same as the LLU product) basic products,
one is based on you keeping your BT telephone line and so running your internet through BT's equipment (non LLU) this service is carp, and can be expensive monthly but once out of contract is as easy as any other service to transfer from
the other is where you take out your line rental from sky and so they transfer you over totally onto their equipment (LLU which is local loop unbundled), this gives you much better service and cheaper broadband however it can be expensive to leave them as you are classed as no longer having a BT line, so to leave them you then have to 'return' to a BT line (i think currently its about £120 for a line activation) before you can get another broadband supplier and so in general you will also experience a small period of time with no service
personally i am on Sky LLU and have been impressed with the connection and the unlimited side of it is very very nice, as above i regulaly go above 500gb a month and i do not get any form of traffic shaping or extra costs, just my normal £7.50 a monthDrop a brand challenge
