Help! Gift advice needed for my lovely neighbours
I would like to buy a small gift for my lovely neighbours. They are both pensioners and love their garden, they mostly grow fruit and veg to eke out their pensions. This week we have had our facias and guttering replaced and our neighbours kindly let us put one end of the scaffolding in their garden. So it has been a bit noisy for them.
To say thank you I would like to get them something for their garden but it would have to produce something edible if it takes up any garden space. I really have no idea what to get, they grow runner beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, courgettes, spinach and herbs and have a small greenhouse (4 pane length).

Kind of depends on the garden of course, but loads of places are doing offers on soft fruit (blackberry/raspberry/gooseberry etc) and small fruit trees. Aldi and woolworths would certainly be worth a look if they are near you.
I once gave a gift of a pot of rosemary. I got a decent size plant from a garden centre (about £3), put a ribbon around the pot and hey presto!0 -
How about a trug? Then you're not sort of imposing your choice on them if it's something they don't want to grow. I love those things, I want one. lolI've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0

How about a National Gardening Gift Voucher. Widely available, and then they can choose what they want.

I would buy a couple of pots of herbs and plant up in a basket from a charity shop, tied up with a ribbon - it is decorative and useful and can sit on the window.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

How about buying them a mushroom growing kit. OK you could buy more mushrooms for the money you will spend on the kit, (about £8-00) but watching for the things growing is great fun.Trust me, I have done it.;)0

If you have a garden which opens to the public near you, what about entry to that? A visit to look at someone elses's garden might be a nice idea0

Thank you for all the great ideas! :T Think I will pop to our local wyevales and see what I can afford. Really like the idea of getting them a trug! Very tempted by the mushroom growing kit for myself! Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.
