Transferring existing Halifax ISA to new Halifax ISA

Options
Does anyone know exactly how this is done? Last year I'm fairly sure I did it over the phone (I opened a new one for 2011/12 online and then called and asked them to transfer my 2010/11 one). However, this year I called and they said they can't do this and I have to fill out a form??? Anyway, on the form it asks for the details, and when I fill out all the info it says 'Error: The sort code you have entered is a Halifax ISA. Please enter details from a different bank".

How exactly do I transfer my 2010/11 and 2011/12 ISA balances to my new 2012/13 one?

Make an appointment with the branch and get them to help you with the transfer forms / redesignation if they wont do it on the phone for you.

I'd have thought they could do it this way on the phone, could it be they are trying to get you into a branch to do a "review" and try to sell you a credit card or something?

You also should not do a self transfer. You should get the bank to do that else you'll end up losing your old allowances that you've saved in previous tax years.

Same happened to me and I'm absolutely certain I've done it over the phone in the past and also done it in branch same day. When I tried to do this a couple of months ago I had the same issue as you. They send the form off to the ISA team with an advice that this could take upto a couple of weeks. I was less than impressed although they did actually handle it much quicker than 2 weeks - I think it was sorted in 4 days. Incidentally they tried to complete the same form in the branch and got the same error message but they printed the form out and wrote notes on it.

I also contacted Halifax Online Helpdesk and told them about the error, explaining that I couldn't get to a branch and they replied saying 'please call into a branch'. When I eventually went into the branch they struggled with their own procedure (this was 2 months ago) so I think this is one of the migrations to the lloyds system. It seems easier to transfer an isa from a different provider than it does between Halifax accounts

You can definitely do this over the phone - I did it last year and this year, less than a week ago. I got through to the savings department who then transferred me to another team. I had to wait about 15 minutes on hold but they did it there and then, when I logged into my account afterwards it had already been re-designated.
Is yours a simple switch from one ISA type to another? They told me I could also do it online though I couldn't see how exactly to do that so said I'd prefer them to do it, they were fine with that.
I didn't open the new ISA beforehand (I did that in a previous year and they had to close it) they just reassign your previous account (so account numbers etc stay the same).

It can be done over the phone, but a lot of their 'advisers' are poorly trained/informed and think it can't be done with Online accounts. They've being given this duff info for months now so obviously aren't learning by their mistakes.

Best not to talk to Halifax staff. Save an hour of your life and 0845 call charges and just fill out the online form http://www.halifax.co.uk/savings/acc...as/ISAoptions/ By the soiunds of it you might be using the wrong form.

If anyone does want to call I successfully used the landline number 0113 242 2229 (from saynoto0870) instead of the usual 0845 as I have inclusive minutes and just pressed the options to get through to the savings team. They did warn me about the wait, in total the call took just under 20 minutes.
I have to say I've always found them very helpful, even making me aware that the rate had dropped on one of my accounts and switching me to the newer issue when I hadn't realised.
