I think its much better for them to be in a home environment if we have to leave them, rather than being in cattery/kennels .

That's very true if you are lucky enough to have someone reliable you can trust to look after them when you're away (which I haven't) and also if you haven't got a skittish cat called Harry who is scared stiff of anyone except DH & me & gets extremely stressed out by anyone else being in his house (which I have). So the cattery is the best option all round for me and probably for many other people.

I am a dog sitter now 4 a friend as due to shifts won't get a pup and I am nxt babysitting 25th,I have a work course to go to for a couple of hours and fully intend taking him with me.( May ge chucked out ,but I can wear that) He is a very well behaved dog (plus he's a cavalier and a bit scared my cat will kill him if she so desires) and I used to take my own dog regularly to wrk when it was applicable (nurse). It's a shame dogs. (Any animals) aren't more integrated I think ,coz they can do a lot of good 4 a wrl place morale.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

I totally agree Fridaycat, my cat had to go to the cattery, even though he hated the travelling, I had a neighbour that used to feed him a few times when I went away, but she wouldn't go in the house which meant I had to leave him out which I really didn't like and I have no cat flap so he couldn't get in. I felt a lot happier when he was in the cattery, it was a lovely place where the people running it really cared about the cats, they retired not long after my cat died so luckily I did not have to find somewhere else for him. When he was in there, I knew he was safe and had company and lots of cuddles.
I'm lucky that the neighbour loves having my dog and he loves going there, its handy and cheaper for me than the kennels which he hated.

I think more companies should allow people to take dogs in, especially if its a small place and people have their own offices etc. My dog sitter works for herself, either from home or her office, she often takes him to the office with her, the other people in the building love having him around.
I am based at home for my work but have to travel a lot during the day, the company I work for allow dogs into their office in fact there is a dog who regularly appears on the training videos they make for us. She's there everyday with her owner.
I agree it sometimes takes the stress out of the day. People working in hospices/care homes should be allowed to take well behaved dogs in as the elderly that have had pets of their own and had to give them up really appreciate seeing them. The home my dad was in had a resident cat which they all loved and I often used to take my dog with me when visiting, he used to go around saying hello to them all.
