Sorry to be a pain (and taking up more of your time), but no, I'm not familiar with the recovery console...
Thanks, Andy0 -
It's no problem - any questions or problems just ask.
Reboot your computer- Before Windows loads, you should be prompted to choose which Operating System to start
- Use the arrow keys to select Microsoft Windows Recovery Console
- You must enter which Windows installation to log onto. Type 1 and press enter.
- Press enter if prompted to enter the administrator password (enter the admin password first if you have set one).
- At the C:\Windows prompt, type the following, and press Enter:
(note the spaces between chkdsk & c: & the space between c: & /r)
Wait for chkdsk to complete - it could take some time.
When finished, at the next prompt type the following, and press Enter:
Exit
Restart the PC.
Re-run combofix as before. Don't forget to disable AVG.0 -
Will do. As this will take some time I'll probably not post again until tomorrow.
Thanks again, Andy0 -

Oh, the joys of computers...
As I'm using a USB keyboard, which runs through Windows, I can't use the arrow keys to get into the recovery console. I'll see if I can borrow an older style keyboard from work and try again tonight. Ho hum...0 -
If not, run it from within windows - it'll then do it at next boot.

You're a star! Was just going to throw computer out of the window as it doesn't have the older kind of keyboard port.
I've started the CHKDSK scan (posting this from the wife's iPad) and will run Combofix next.
It's taking a while but hopefully I can update here later this evening.
Thanks again!0 -
No problem.
It will take a while - let me know if you have any further problems with combofix.0 -
Hi, well I have run CHKDSK and that seems to have finished ok. I disabled AVG and ran Combofix again. The same thing happened - it got through the 50 stages of the Autoscan, then flashed up "deleting files" for about a second before the system rebooted. On opening my user profile I have again got a message that the system has recovered from a serious error.
Still no Combofix.txt file on C drive.
I really appreciate your help, look forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Andy0 -
Reboot, tap f8 and go into safe mode. Then run combofix as before - let me know if it still crashes as it's deleting files.
As before, ensure AVG isn't running.0
