Orange PAYG: check balance 453 (is it free?)

Hi,

My nephew has just got an orange PAYG, I've had a search online and it said the balance number is 453 but we're not sure if it's free or as one post said it charges you a penny? Thanks

Yes, it is free, I have had one for donkey's years.

Topping up is also free, I think its one fo the options when you ring for a balance anyway.
