Hello
I have given all information to help you understand my problem and i am looking for advice please
After looking around for a local conservatory company in the dorset poole area we came accross Lulworth / bournemouth conservatories as we were very impressed with the price of what we were looking at getting. we decided to go with them.
We purchased back in sep 2011 a new conservatory to be installed and completed within 2 / 3 week from the agreed start date. this all looked and sounded great.
It all went very well the company seemed great and very friendly, and as told on numerous occasions "whatever we would like, is not a problem" i.e.fit and finish of the conservatory! so upon paying 25% deposit or so of theinitial overall cost.
the date to start the work arrived and within a couple of days I was made tofeel that we were not being looked after as we had be told we would be.
they tried using the incorrect insulation in the concrete floor, by using a 50mm polystyrene, and not 75mm thick as they had said they would, upon my original question was asked. I had to demand that they kept their original verbal promise. before they could continue and pour the floor
the foundation/digging/bricky gang did not have any critical tools needed i.e.a cement mixer, nor a wheel barrow so they borrowed mine. and abused the barrow that is now ruined for the purpose it was originally bought for.
they had no plans to work off? other than a scribble on a bit of paper given to them from Lulworth Co as to what the dimensions for the conservatory and where the foundations and walls were meant to go.
the dwarf wall was out by 50mm inwardly, so i had to remove some 40mm or the entire surface area to allow enough space to fit the plaster board inside the area, and to allow the window board with only 10mm over hang at best. for a decent looking finish.
Wrong glass was fitted in the privacy glass area that divides us and next door( they had been given the design of pattern, but made some poor reason as to why we had not got the correct glass pattern to start with) and said it will be replaced as soon as the design we had picked was in stock and they return to replace free of charge. still waiting
incorrect brass fixtures/fittings were fitted on the window vents when we had stipulated we did not want brass, we want silver/chrome please, and upon installation day.. They said that they have never ever seen chrome fittings?? but we know they had fitted chrome before as we had seen chrome from a recent instal job/client of the company whom was a show home i guess, and this is why we wanted chrome as it looked superb.
we still have not got the chrome fittings??
the new electrics have still not had a cert given, as was promised in the price of the complete build, and this will add cost to us when we come to sell in the future
the plasterer had done a very fast job and very nice it looked too, but he had smashed off the drip edge of an original external, now internal lintel, and upon doing so has made some severe issues concerning structural support for the main back wall of the house, as the lintel has got some major cracks along one end of the lintel. i have photos for proof. this is something I will have to look into and fix.
the cement floor screed was so poorly done, but 20, 30 and some areas 40mm drop or rise. of which i have had to use 4 bags of self levelling compound to sort out the problem. they had said they will reimburse me but they never reply to my calls and I had been told by the owner of the company that he will pop over one day next week so we can talk about the issues. Weeks have again gone by with nothing from him. this is the second time we have got in touch or bumped into him for him to respond and fail to arrange to pop over, or even simply turn up..
I had problems with the skip on the front drive, as they had not paid the skip companies bill, and it sat there for around 7 weeks.
plus they had mixed in plaster board and old plaster and plaster bags into the skip along with the general waste. hence the delay in collecting the skip once it had been paid
the roof leaks, upon a rainy day, and dependant on which way the rain is coming from, we have drip drip drip on the sofas and the new laminate flooring.
there are many other problems that we have had and still do, and too many to mention here, but this maybe a simple case of our own dislike and so i guess we can live with these small errors such as window cill board has been fitted not to spec and is flush with the plaster board with no overhang.
plaster board is un even and raised within the old door frame
2 main opening windows were never installed ( but on the plans they were on it) this is something we could live with and have too, but why should we??
and they have never returned to finish off the conservatory guttering.
but to say all that, they were great guys and if i pointed out a problem they would sort it. But i think this was due to them knowing i would not let it slip.
what can i do or where do we stand in getting some response or someone to rectify the problems! I simply do not know where we stand and what we can do to resolve the problems or do we live with it
I had been asked would I recommend Lulworth Conservatories.. and in a heartbeat it would be a resounding NO.
can i ask them to refund me the cost of the extra work needed to re do the original poor fitting, or should I ask them to come back and sort it out.. i have asked them and they never return!! where do we stand with all of this.

So it is still less than a year old, and problems still arrise from this poor company and its products!
as the doors are starting to sagg and jam, and the windows too..( you have to lift them to close them) the whole quality of the product is not as we first thought or led to believe.
the lock mech on the door is now twisted, and you have to pull on the door to help close it/lock it.
the window/opener handles sometimes work lose and then they need adjusting, and tightening up
the door hinges squeek!!! ( i think these are mainly alloy with white plastic coated).. and they are simply poor quality. as i know for a fact that these should not squeek at all.
the K2 window opener for the 2 roof vents, ( an extending handle/arm with a hook ) had simply fallen apart within 5 days of having the conservatory fitted, i have had to use a hard resin to glue it all back together so we can open and close the roof windows without it falling apart when using it.
not sure it i had said before/above, but where they had fitted the double patio doors.. there is a severe crack line on one of the dwarf walls, where they drilled into the brickwork to fit the plastic door frame. and the crack line goes all the way accross the wall!!!! it was fitted when the wall was still green/fresh. and i think this has caused the cracking along the cement/jointing lines of the brick work
and still they have not replied back to my recorded letters?!!!!!!!
this is under warranty still

Only my opinion but I think you've been (too?) tolerant and some of the things can't be fixed without major reworks. You should stop doing repairs yourself and make a full list of remaining faults, send it recorded, or hand deliver to the company giving a reasonable time to contact you (eg 7 days).
If no response, as much hassle as it is, I think you need to seek legal advice (many offer free initial consultation). Is the company part of any trade body or association you can contact ( I can't find Lulworth Conservatories in a Google search?).
Sorry I can't offer any practical advice - good luck though0 -
hi there flashg67
no you will not find lulworth currently on google search as I had left a review.. as they call it? re customer satisfaction with a basic and factual review with good and bad points! and hey presto!! they had vanished from google search engine 2 days later. and i have just looked and they are still not on google
i think i will have to look into this matter in greater detail, I had sent a letter with the faults but not recorded ( silliy of me i know ) but i thought they were a decent company, with only a few flaws like anyone. mmmm how wrong can one be?0 -
Did you pay the remaining 75%?0
-
hi there sharpsurfers..
very interesting indeed in what you say about the other company, i had suspected there was more than one company, based on a hunch in what i felt in how greg spoke about things to us.
Hi Zandoni.. yes we paid the rest, and was waiting for them to return the following few days to complete the job.. 6 months later we are still waiting0 -
Similar story. Had to watch them like a hawk. Their sub-contractors (not employees as they claim) constantly trying to change spec to their own advantage and in contravention of building specs. Asking for money irrespective of contract terms. Site not cleared. Garden trashed. Failed milestones. Failed promises. Constant prevarication/stalling persuading you to defer action.
Like fool paid in full but Contract not completed -Leaks still not rectified.
Report them to Trading Standards and take them to Court.0 -
hi there.
yes we had the same problem as you have pointed out.
we were asked to pay 2k here, 2.5k there.. and so on over the entire build being told sob stories like "money needed to pay for next up and coming job" yada yada yada so we paid as and when asked as we are decent people. and we thought they were too? how wrong were we in thinking they were.. well at least the owner of lulworth / conservatories bournemouth was a very likeable chap, as where all the fitters and guys doing the work! top chaps..and worked well but did what they wanted and made it up as they went along to help them cut corners or simply did not have the design or layout info from the company to do the job right to start with.
and yes we may have paid in full, but they have not completed the contract, i.e. roof leaks, floor poorly laid, wrong glass, damaged lintel, wrong fittings, wrong guttering, and no electrical pass part p certification! i think i have enought to go on.. but i have been told by Mr Greg ( the owner ) that he will personally sort this out, on a number of ocasions now and still nothing. but they have my number and they also have our address! ( did you know that Mr G said to me once, "I was going to call you, but I have lost your number"??? ) oh that is a funny one i tell you. but he still has time to contact me and get this sorted but not much longer. i know you are reading this mr G.
oh and if anyone is thinking about using these guys? i wish you all the luck in the world in getting what you want.0 -
JayHs357,
By paying them all the money, they have no interest in coming back to correct these faults. Also, by paying them the money, you indicate that you are satisified with their work."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Hi there ManInTheStreet
yes you would asume right, but we had discussed the errors and the faults before we gave the final payment, with a total undestanding that they were going to come back later in the week to complete and replace the certain issues.
there is no reg to state that once i have paid in full that it is complete? it is only complete once they have fulfiled their end of the contract or deal and it is signed off as such.
they have not, and thus it is not over
I was satisfied with the good points, and informed them i was not happy with the bad points, they know this and I have records, photo evidence and also phone conversations and text messages stating such with dates and times.
So I am planning on taking them to court0 -
Lulworth Conservatories 18 Fulwood Avenue Bearwood BH11 9NJ, appears deserted and empty.I have a CCJ out against this firm. Any info about proprietor and his whereabouts would be most welcome. Is his name Webb or Howe?0
-
It appears that others beside me have been done over by Lulworth cons. I believe Gregg to be the owners name, if anyone has any idea where he lives, or Steve Howe his mate lives and would be kind enough to let me know? I would like to contact them. It could help quite a few of us.0
