Having had a bit of involvement with ill older people recently (as a relative /friend, not professional ) I've noticed how they like little and often, and more of the cakey / biscuity stuff. I wonder if the healthy diet now punted at all is actually suited for the sedentary young to middle aged adult. I remember when i had my eldest the perceived wisdom was semi or skimmed milk for all then they changed to whole milk for under twos 'who need the fat'. I would be interested to see if there are guidelines within gerantology, and if so whether they are followed in general hospitals. WL seems to be a common theme, so perhaps they too need a higher fat content, particularly if their appetites are suppressed
I listened to something on Radio4 about this recently and they were saying that the elderly should not be following the eating guidelines that are being promoted all the time.
I have already warned DD that when she is driving herself, I need text before she leaves & asa she arrives. Have now worked out that he insurance payments are less than what we pay on train fares at the moment so not so terrible.
Had a lovely indian dinner and now about to attacked the ginormous ironing pile :eek:0 -

Yep, half one eaten today. Home made, with whisky. So moist. As for dog poodles, you will have to wait. They are a speciality. I am having dilemma over which sauce to use though.
Still got another one in sideboard, brewing up. Last year we got to October because of spotted !!!!!! etc.I hvae nt snept th lst fw mntes writg ths post fr yu t cme alng hre nd agre wth m!

evening all!
been a busy day at work for me - usual work plus cooked a lunch there for 8 people which was very nice if I do say so myself:D
Had half an hour with my feet up and my kindle when I got home and have just cooked yet another roast for DH.
WM is on again and also did some ironing.
Dogs to walk later and we need to pop to DH's work(the dairy)
Cariad - (((hugs))) re your Mum, when Mums elderly friend was in hospital and the nursing home Mum took in a little dish of strawberries, small individual cakes like mini rolls, little pots of custard and mousse and big bars of chocolate that she could suck on - it all had to be stuff that could be easily swallowed.
welcome to a couple of new faces - Sonny and Brallaqueen,
Sonny - cant wait to see just what on earth dog poodles is going to be:D
RR - well done at the jumble sale:T
off to make a cuppa now, have a lovely evening all xDo what you love :happyhear0 -
EG - we run the same texting system but as DD gets older and I calm down the texts aren't as frequent. She did used to forget too but I just used to phone her and she wasn't always pleased!!
JackieO - I have pm'd you re veggie cookbook.
Couldn't exchange my bag in town as they were out of stock so they will phone when they get one in.
Salmon and veg for tea, very yummy. Might have some ice cream in a bit. Back to work tomorrow so the healthy eating will begin again!
Take care. XX0 -
JackieO - I'm veggie but the only veggie cookbook I have is Rose Elliot's Complete Collection, and that was a freebie! It's a good book, but huge, and probably pricey. There are lots of cheap veggie cookbooks out there, try the Works or Tesco, but they can be a bit bog-standard - pasta/sheppards pie/quiche/stuffed mushrooms/stirfry etc. I have a cookbook collection but it's made up of 'normal' books and I just adapt any meat recipes I like the look of to be veggie! Not much help sorry!

Hi Guys!
Hope you're all well and thanks for all the lovely messages and kind words. Much appreciated.
Today has been a bit of a blur as not been great but feel a little more with it this evening, even though I'll be going to sleep soon. Lunch was the chops, mash and veg and for diner we had chicken, wraps with salad. Nice and light but filling.
Have 2 hospital visits this week and have an iron infusion later on in the week which is a slow release one and it'll take about 7hrs to go through properly. Joys:D Have programmed WM to finish about 8am to go on the line along with the DW, veggies out to prep in the morning, DD's lunch has been done for college. Monday is her long day at college, so have done with help Marmite sandwich, sausage roll out freezer, apple, yogurt, 3 cookies, juice box and bottle of water. Although she's a size 10, she eats well;)
Can you believe she only has a few weeks before her 1st year of college has finished:eek::eek::eek::eek: OMG.....Im old:o Where does the time go?
Have managed to list some stuff on Ebay and 2 items already have bids, which is a good sign. Many others have watchers too.
Anyway, I'm waffling.
