Premium Texts Shock!

Options
My husband's recent mobile phone bill shows £22.50 in extras for 16 texts received from 88222. He has been getting spam texts from this number and had been ignoring them. He has no idea how they got his number.

What can we do to stop this happening?

What network? Some will allow a bar on premium rate texts, eg Vodafone, though it can be hard getting CS to implement it.

If he didn't subscribe to the service then demand a refund of the cost, don't be fobbed off by clueless CS staff telling you you have to contact the spammers who sent the texts.

If he did subscribe then send STOP to the number.

Provided he didn’t subscribe, liability is on Vodafone to refund and block, as unwilling as they may be to do so.

If he did subscribe, send stop to the number

Edit: Got caught in the middle of posting by DD2, same as above advice.

Send a message containing STOP ALL to the number (88222).

Your husband's service provider should refund £22.50 plus the cost of the STOP ALL message, but I'm 99% sure they won't. The networks and service providers washed their sticky fingers of problems with unsolicited incoming premium rate text messages some time ago.

They will probably direct him to Phone Pay Plus who will direct him to the company that operates 88222. It will probably to quicker and easier to contact them for a refund.
