This popped up in my garden last year & I'd love to know what type of poppy it is if anyone knows??

This was the original plant & a few more popped up after ~ I'm hoping they'll appear again this year as the flower was really pretty.

I can answer, it's an opium poppy, an annual which should appear again if you allowed it to set seed. You aren't guaranteed the same colours or form but they're always lovely.

I love these and always let them grow where they seed, even tiny ones between the cobbles
My dad cut into the seed head for me to see the sap where opium comes from when I was a child - it didn't corrupt meYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -
They used to grow like weeds in our garden, it took us years to get rid of them. They are lovely but they tend to take over. xRIP TJ. You my be gone, but never forgotten. Lovely, thanks for that
How interesting that the colour & form might be different next time, I never knew that could happen. Also interesting about the sap!!
I did just leave them last year (I think there were 3 that popped up) so I'm hoping they dropped seeds & I'll get a few more this year ~ if I do I'll make sure I get the pods & maybe scatter the seeds somewhere else in the garden as well. And maybe in a few years time I'll be 'weeding' them out like chris n tj!! :rotfl:'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
Just for info, the sap will not provide opium in this country, too cold. Just in case anyone was expecting a raid by boys in blue or Agent Orange spray by SAS

We had two of these poppies last year and I let them seed themselves and now I have about 10 of them in the same spot. I can't wait till they all flower as they are so pretty.
The only thing is they took so long to grow originally from the first two - we had even forgotten we had planted them about two years ago.Mortgage Free as of 20.9.17Declutter challenge 2023, 2024 🏅 🏅⭐️⭐️

I've seen what I think are the same leaves (greyish green) popping up in the same place as last year, so I'm hoping this is the poppies on their way again
