Charities and Energy Salespeople in Supermarkets

Options
It seems to me that supermarkets are allowing more and more of these people into their stores.
I do give to charity but I have my favourites like most people. I cant afford to give to everyone who rattles a collecting tin under my nose as I am passing on my way out... yet I always manage to feel guilty for not giving to every Tom, !!!!!! or Harry.
As for the energy people....I just try to ignore them. The last thing I want after doing my shopping (usually after a busy day) is for them to get in my face. I just want to go home and unpack my shopping and put my frozen food in the freezer.
If they manage to collar me I always tell them that I would never change supplier on a whim in a supermarket.
"Whys that"? they usually say.
"Because if I wanted to change (and I dont) then I would look into it in detail on the net to find the best deal for me" is my answer. That usually shuts them up. :D
Then there are the kids with buckets waiting to pack your shopping. I would never let a child pack my shopping but I usually give them something.... they are usually just local kids wanting to raise a bit of money for their own club or whatever.
Does anyone else find all these people in supermarkets annoying.?

I dont find the ones selling the energy annoying at all snc ethey are just doing they're job. Just ignore them or just be more insistant that you are completely happy with your current supplier and will not change and just walk away.

Maybe if the supermarkets had enough complaints from customers they stop this practice in its tracks. The fact is they do this for one reason they get a paid for allowing them to be on there property. I am sure its not the case of charities as a whole they dont pester you although you made to feel guilty, its the chuggers I have issues with they are aggressive and morally is it right people get paid to hound people to raise money for a charity? I bet they dont go down affluent areas

As for kids packing bags no thanks, I rather pay to not let them only Morrison's in my area allow this and I rarely shop there now not because of that I may add but other reasons

I'm a Store Manager for one of the big 4 retailers, and once made the mistake of letting some guys in to do some charity fundraising - I realised too late they were just well dressed "chuggers". When the charity (one of the better known ones) called to arrange things they were very professional on the phone.

After watching them for about 10 minutes, and being horrified at how they were speaking to my customers, they were politely asked to leave the premises, and were then escorted out by security when they started arguing.

    Never again

There is a DG/Conservatory company that regularly have a stand in our local Morrisons. They dont annoy me like a lot of the others do. All the salesmen that I have seen are really nice and polite. They just ask if you would be interested and when you say "No thanks" they just smile and say O.K. Not like the energy people....some of who just keep going on and on even when you have told them you are not interested and are walking away. I am sure they would get more new cutomers by being nice (like the DG firm) rather than bugging folk and winding them up.

i guess if a big super market said no to charity people on the door.
The daily mail would be willing to run a article like
"tryanical ASDA ban save the children" some thing along those lines.
    They can not win

My local morrissons is terrible for this, worst is the rep for Anglian Windows, she pretty much shouts at you as you go in and out of the store trying to get you to buy windows/doors/conservatories. The store manager doesn't give a damn about her treatment towards her customers either.

One day I was in a mischevious mood (and albeit a tad bored) and decided to have some fun with her, at the time I lived in a 3rd storey flat, she heckled me about conservatories so I decided to waste best part of 10 minutes listening to the spiel that she was giving out, then she said about making an appointment for someone to come and see my property, only then did she ask where I lived, her face was a picture when she realised it was a flat, then she rambled on about me wasting her time, to which I pointed out that next time she shouldn't pester people doing their weekly shop and that most people wouldn't buy or commit in that kind of situation anyhow. Every time I see her in there since, I give her a cheeky wink and she blatently ignores me :)

Why cannot you just smile sweetly and say '' No Thank you'' or '' I'm Sorry'' and walk away.

Works for me every time !

Because I go to the supermarket to shop, not to socialise.

I loved the look on the face of the bloke from Help for Heroes when I told him that i'd just allocated all my charity budget to Islamic Relief.
