transfering programmes from pc to laptop

Im waiting on delivery of a new laptop from dell and want to know what is the best way to transfer programmes I already have on my pc to the laptop? The main one I need is excell, pretty sure the laptop doesnt come with it installed but I could be wrong, can I just burn it onto a cd and then install it on the laptop?

This is illegal to do because it will be licenced to 1 machine,

the other way is to download openoffice which is similar to the microsoft office suite and completely free

Im pretty sure (like 99%) that Office is licensed for installation on both a laptop and desktop. But, can't be used at the same time.

It depends on if you have a retail (Boxed) version of Office, or one which came with the PC - usually termed OEM. With a retail version, the EULA says you are allowed to install it on a laptop as well as your main machine as long as you are the sole user. With an OEM version then you cannot install it on your laptop, it is solely for use on the desktop.

Didn't you read the EULA (End User Licence Agreement) when you started using Office? ;-)

I'm sure someone will confirm, but I think that's been dropped from 2007, 1 machine, 1 licence.

Can't confirm that 100% but I've definitely read that a few places, instead the home and student version allows installation on three separate machines.

I thought you could buy a version that was licensed for three machines but was more expensive?

To be honest i couldn't care less, Openoffice does the job for me at home. I can't see me ever buying any Microsoft software apart from the OS in future and that's only due to the few games I play.
