He can look all he likes, but PROOF is what the deposit scheme will require. I assume you have the contact details and account numbers for the deposit scheme? As soon as you leave, contact them and request full release of the deposit amount. LL has to agree or dispute before it will come to you. If he disputes, they will ask for inventory proof, which you state doesn't exist, so get in and request the release as soon as you can.
On the day you move out, take thorough and dated photos of each and every room from each angle - they are not always admissible in dispute cases, but will give you a stronger case should the deposit scheme need to arbitrate on your behalf.0 -
When I read things like this, alarm bells ring. You make a dangerous assumption:
that a letting agent is more likely than a landlord to place the deposit in an approved scheme - wrong. There are good/bad landlords, and good/bad agents!
Do not take it on trust that your deposit is protected. If you have actually been sent (as you should have been) confirmation of which scheme, AND the deposit reference number, together with your personal log-on details, then yes, you should be OK.
If not, or if you have ANY doubts, then contact each of the 3 schemes yourself and ask if your deposit is registered with them. This is the only way to be sure.

You still havent said if you have been given full details of the scheme where your deposit is held and satisfied yourself that it's in there.
My DD recently left a property and experienced months of delay getting her deposit returned. Having been given a number, she took it on trust that her deposit was protected, but that proved to be complete fiction.
It is easier to put pressure on the landlord or their agent while you are still resident, and suddenly much harder after you've left.
