Can someone help me understand Sky/Freesat?

If you cant get Sky then you probably/possibly cant get freesat, independents will install where Sky will not, a chimney dish install may well clear those trees.
Worth getting a local CAI or RDI-lb installer out for a (free) quote.0 -
Thanks Kurtis Blue - I may try that. Can I just ask what CAI and RDI-lb stand for..0

The clue is in the name ie FreesatLuv2Budget wrote: »Do you need a satellite dish to watch Freesat. I have Freeview at the moment and have an outside digital aerial because I live in such a poor reception area. Is the digital aerial sufficient for Freesat. Thanks

Possible dumb question alert!
Do I have to tell Sky I want Freesat when I cancel my subscription or does it just happen automatically?!0 -
It just happens.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Brilliant thank you!0

They made me buy a new card - which in those days was £20. It can't harm to ring up Sky Freesat and check. It just happens.

I already have Sky digital satellite equipment - what else do I need?
All you need to gain access to the free channels available on the digital satellite platform is a Freesat from Sky viewing card, which costs just £25. If you’d like to access the interactive services available, you’ll also need a working phone line. To purchase a viewing card please phone Sky on 08448 244 400.0 -
You don't need a new card and they just tricked you out of £20 pineapple. The question you quote says 'Sky Equipment' which could be a box from a car boot sale. The card, even if the subscription on it is dead, is still important.0
