Hello

Am considering buying a new Mercedes C220 saloon. For all the owners out there what do you make of the car? Had any problems etc? Thanks

    31 owner reviews for MERCEDES-BENZ C CLASS Saloon 1993‑2000

    eg-
This car is a dream to drive as the automatic gear box is smooth and as a friend of mine has commented "This is arm chair driving". I personally love these cars as they are built like tanks and last forever. There is lots of space in them and plenty of room for my sons child seat. Around town I never rush about as the driving experience seems to make you potter rather than race around. On the motorway this car is a fantastic ride and the kick down gives great acceleration even at higher speeds. I also like the cruise control as this stops me speeding too much!

If you want a solid reliable and comfortable car you cant beat these old Mercs. When I took it to the Merc dealership the guy told me to hang onto it as it would probably do 300,000 miles if I looked after it and the build quality is much better than the newer models. Ever wondered when you go abroad that all the taxis are mercs?

Although it is not all good news-
A real shame that they rot!
Really liked this car, good engine and great gearbox - some look a little dated now, but in my opinion, the Sport model still looks good. So why did I sell it? - rust! It is absolutely disgraceful that in this day and age, a prestige car can suffer rust in most of the panels at under 10 years old. I believe it is very common in Mercs of this age and frankly I don't know how Mercedes have survived such terrible build quality. I'm now back in a Saab of a similar age. It's nearly as good as the Merc in most areas, but not quite - that said, no rust at all - none!

    Not really relevant.

The OP is asking about the new model C220 not the old C Class!

    Hi

Yes i`m talking about a brand new 12 plate C220. Is there a big rust problem with this model? It's starting to put me off now :o

My error, sorry. Not used to people buying new cars as is a money saving site and buying brand new has no place here.

Being a money saver doesn't prevent you from buying new. :)

The OP's question is as relevant here as any.

If I was going to buy a new car, i'd probably get the new C class. Not driven one, but read good reviews. You should be able to negotiate several thousand off list prices. All cars have their disadvantages - look here:

Does it not. There's still plenty of money to save buying a new car as there is any product, depends how you do it.

OP, I'm sure you've looked but there are plenty of finance deals available for new C220s at the moment as well as good cash purchases from brokers.
