Call from company representing Vodafone???

I got a call today from a company - I can't remember their name now(dammit) purporting to be connected to Vodafone and that were ringing up to renew my contract and either upgrade me with a new phone or offer £25 cashback instead. The phone they offered was a basic Nokia 6 series I think - no camera or music capabilities and that was it - no alternatives. Anyway I said no thanks as I'm currently using a SE P901 and wanted a compatible upgrade.Anyway the phone call reminded me that my contract was nearly up so I rang Vodafone disconnections to see what they would offer to keep me.
They had no idea about someone else ringing me with this other pitiful offer and the girl on the phone actually laughed when she heard what it was - esp as I've been with Vodafone for 5 years now and they've always given me great phones and deals. So I'm getting a free SE P990 on Saturday and keeping my present tariff - £20/month 200 mins and 500 texts.STC deal.
So what was the deal with the initial phone call???Was it a dodgy company just trying it on or was it Vodafone trying to get me to settle for a sh*tty phone???

Totally separate load of chancers - I usually ask the name of their company and then say I've never heard of it, and most hang up without saying anything.0

When we buy phone etc from on line company or similar companies they sell our information (yaaa including date of birth)
Then these third party company do offer you mobile phone etc.
These third party have all information about us and that scares me.
Once I got a call and the person other site he have all the information about me and the only thing I have to say over phone is yes.
I now registered my phone with tps and whenever i get a call I ask him to cut off.You can't believe if he realy is from the company that he is claiming
Never entertain these guys.0 -
Hi,
If ever in doubt I'd end the incoming call from the company, then call back Vodafone free on 191, so that you know for certain who you're talking to. The only time you should officially be getting a sales call from Vodafone is if you've requested a call (for instance, the business section of the Vodafone website allows you to request call-backs on setting up deals and accounts) or if you're contacted by the saves team following a porting / PAC request.
I've registered for TPS (Telephone Preference Service - http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/tps/) myself and it's since stopped cold calls from third party companies. If you can also make a note of the incoming number, then performing an internet / Google search this will usually lead you to existing threads on the internet where posters are already discussing the number.0
