I'm soo glad we joined the NCT. :D

The Antenatal course was expensive but worth every penny. My DH especially thought so as it gave him ideas of what to expect, how he could help and let him know that all the other dads felt the same way.

They also had a class purely about breastfeeding (which you didn't have to go to) which was invaluable to me as they gave us names and numbers of local breastfeeding counsellors to go to if we needed help. Which I did and I can honestly say that I would have given up without them.

I think its £45 to join the NCT and I'm glad I did the course which cost £200 last year. I still meet with the Mums I met every week.

the courses can be expensive, but if you're hard up they will usually help by reducing fees.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but what is (the) NCT?

I actually clicked on the thread expecting it to be about Nottingham City Transport! :rotfl:

    I never joined.

NHS classes and magazines gave me all the info I wanted about labour and birth.

While pregnant, I saw loads of baby groups existed round here. There I found the social life which would have been the only benefit the NCT groups offered me.

And as I met people who were part of the NCT, I'm very glad I didn;t join as the alpha femaleness described above was VERY definitely present in our local branch - my friend, who was heavily involved, got told off, yes TOLD OFF, for posting details on the local forum about a local business she wanted to recommend as she'd had a good experience there.

I had the same feelings about joining NCT, so I just went to the nhs ones and I'm still friends with the post natal group I went to 11 years later.

I couldn't think of anything worse than joining an NCT class, all those middle class mums with their Tarquins and Tullulahs, it did not appeal to me.

My sister joined and was worried because she had the smallest house in the group. I like down to earth people.

Agreed..none of my NCT friends are snobby in any way, and there's not a silly name between us.

Sorry, but it's my experience from meeting people who've joined. The ones I've met are snobby and not people I'd particularly ever want to associate with and have called their children silly names. I like normal people. i think you've got to be a particular type of person to join them, so I stayed well clear. That includes my sister, who has changed beyond recognition (won't even mention to her friends where she comes from, because she's embarassed, she thinks they already look down on her).

Well I joined the NCT and I don't think I'm a 'particular type' thanks very much.

I take people as I find them on an individual basis. I don't lump everyone in together.

Then again, I think you've got to be a 'particular type' of person to do that.

That's a bit of a silly statement, would you say the same for bnp members? You don't lump people together in any situation?

I am a particular type of person. A particular type of person, who wouldn't go near an NCT group.

The NCT members who I've met are wannabe yummy mummy types, who are materialistic. Sitting in a roomful with my sister, simply awful. I'm so glad I never joined.
