Hi everyone.

My Scottish Power Online Saver 13 tariff is due to end on 30 April 2012.

When I switched from EDF to Scottish Power it took 20 days for my electric to switch and 26 days for my gas to switch.

If I apply to a new energy supplier today the switch will happen after my contract ends but will I get charged a cancellation fee for starting the process early?

Thank you.
Cashback earned
Quidco : £858 :)
Pigsback : £20 and a Beatles CD.

You may...I'd wait until the 20th of this month before starting the switching process to be sure you will not be charged a cancellation fee.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

I asked thie same question on another thread and got a different answer:

I've not yet done a switch though - I will probably leave it another week - I just dont want to have to long a time paying 12% more after 1 May, so need to switch soon.

The supplier registers you with a future date and then the rest of the 4-6 weeks is the admin time between supplies and their agents to move you over. The date is the important part, make sure its after your current contract ends.

When I rang SP,I was told to switch after, as I would be charged a fee If I do it before.

You can switch now. 4 weeks is typical, very rare for it to take less than 3 weeks. 30/4 is only 2 weeks away.
SP are talking nonsense-the date your contract ends is the date you go on supply with the incoming provider, not the date you apply to switch.

I re-read the email I got from SP telling me about my deal ending, at the bottom of the email it says that if I do not want to go onto the standard tariff I can contact them and tell them I want to change suppliers and I will be allowed to move without being charged a fee.

The comparison sites show I will save money by switching my gas to Ebico (we only use 4,800 kwh a year) and my electric to EDF (we only use 1,800 kwh a year).

I applied to switch on Friday 17 April and have not heard anything at all (not even an email confirming my appication).
