Advice needed please for novice

I have tried to get some ideas from the posts here but do not understand some of the jargon.So please bear with me if it has been covered before.

Have been on dial up with orange for last 4 years,with the low user scheme from BT.This means my phone bills are really cheap as i use the internet for most contacts when i can.However the computer is now getting out of date and hubby and i would like to download music,and he wants to play games,so we are planning on getting a better one and going onto broadband.

I realise i will lose the low user scheme,and are happy to stay with orange but is there a better provider that i can link phone rental,calls and broadband so i do not have such a huge jump in the bills.

Any advice would be appreciated as it is such a minefield now with so much choice and i would hate to make the wrong one.

I'm with Tiscali and have anytime calls and broadband. They do offr a line rental package as well. Talktalk also offer the same. Both are good prices. The only thing I'd warn you to do though is to read their "fair usage policy" as Tiscali have penalised me for downloading too much in peak hours and I'm now sharing bandwidth with heavy users between 6pm and 11pm. Therefor I shall soon leave them. It depends just what you plan to download-there were 4 of us on the net at the same time to be fair-I did warn my kids and they didnt listen. Tiscali did warn us and we did cut back but they still penalised us and whether they will ever put us back to how it was before I Realy do not know.
