1st Credit Debt Collectors

Hi - just had a rather alarming call from 01737237375, claiming to be 1stCredit and claiming a debt from feb 2010 from an old easyjet credit card, which I believe I closed.

He said the debt is £135.51 but willing to take £102. I said I dispute this and they said they've written to me, nto sure how they got my new address!?

I moved out of my old house 29th march 2010 and 99% sure the credit card was closed and nothing left owed. They said i have to prove i closed the account, i told them they have to prove the debt but could not give me what the debt was for over the phone or email me it.... they would send it in writing though.

I am moving house again in 2 weeks but don't want to give them my new address! I am pretty sure someone would have been in touch before now if i did have outstanding debt... surely they would not wait 2 years 2 months to sell on the debt!?

Thanks in advance

Spoke to the bank they said they wrote to me but Royal Mail returned letters (never had other post returned) yet they didn't think to pick up the phone and ring me (had my number) or email me asking me to call them.

I supposedly had a balance on the account but they can't look back at their records and check over the phone... i have to write in and request that.

This is all after me writing to them 2 years ago to confirm I want the account closed and making final payment!!!

Not sure what to do now!

nottoolate - no debt owing, i have never ever missed a payment... credit score 838!

called 1st credit and he made a note and said they will go back to the bank!

doubt it'll be the last i hear of it but thank god for credit reports showing account closed 2 days after i wrote to them and that i never ever missed a payment and the 3 months before i closed the account the balance was £0

been stressed all day about this... need a pint now!

    thats ok then.

1st credit arent going to take any action for a disputed or small debt. and your credit file is ok

that is all that really matters. the rest is a hassle i admit, but at least they havent trashed your credit report as well

Did you take any regular payments, or card protection insurance as this may be it. But if the bank have it, they will be able to provide you a statement for you to pay
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

never took any insurance out... my credit card balances were never massive and i always paid in full.

bank couldn't check reason for "debt" , so were not much help... they just told me my details were passed to 1st credit... who then said they'd speak to the bank after i gave them my credit report info

I'm glad I've seen this. Was visiting the forum this evening for advice. I've recently received sms and phone calls from 1st credit claiming I have a debt from a JD Williams account. Never shopped with the above, or have any outstanding debts. I'm very careful about giving out my mobile number as I was bombarded with cold calls from Halifax and changed my number.

With all this in mind and the fact I've received no personalised message, or written letter I believe it to be a scam for me. But what's interesting is they do seem to legitimately collect for companies?

I've rang my mobile operator who's only advice is to call the pollice. I can't contact the financial ombudsman until I've complained about the nuisance call s to the company. But I don't want to give them any details. Does anyone have any advice re next steps?

It could be that they have a debt for someone with a similar name to you and are sending out messages in the hope that someone will phone up that they can bully into paying a debt that is not theirs.

The onus is on them to prove you owe the debt and not on you to prove you don't.

Suggest you just ignore the messages and don't call them under any circumstances. Write to them and ask them to prove you owe the debt and I bet you'll hear nothing more.

I've had dealings with Worst Crudit in the past and it wasn't pleasant to start with but then I got brave with them and they ended up putting the phone down on me (how rude!!!) back in 2008 and I've heard nothing from them since.
