    Not with ex-MIL.

Polietly refusing or leaving food on your plate was not an option. She thinks it is very bad manners to do that, and you must eat what you are given regardless of if you actually like it or not.

Very odd person - don't get me started or I could write a whole book on her bizarre customs!

I get fed up with the same meals every week. I think I should get together with a few friends and we could all keep a diary of what we had for dinner for a month. Then we could swop them around and see what we fancy to add into our menus. We could ask for the recipes if it is not obvious.

Try the menu planning threads on here each week - there is plenty inspiration!

My grandma always used to cook the same things every night of the week...can stil remember most of them! Only exceptions were Christmas day and Boxing Day...although both days were always the same

The reason I learnt to cook full meals at the age of 13 was because we had the same meals on the same day every week without fail and I found it so dull. I started cooking and turned the tables on my fussy Dad and told him he had to have what he was given. He's much less fussy now but still won't eat chicken or turkey. I find that I repeat certain meals once every two to three weeks but rarely on the same night (except toad in the hole which always seems to be on a Saturday when we have it)

I too always knew what day it was by what was on my plate as a child. Consequently, I could never meal plan now as an adul. I have a freezer stuffed full of food and decide nightly what I fancy.

Guess it dates back to my childhood and puts me back in control.

Do you eat the same food every week? If so, do you think it's cheaper to do that rather than change your menu?

  • we might have a couple of things the same, but i tend to vary it as OH starts to complain otherwise, i reckon i could repeat it monthly and get away with it tho

no we dont! in fact unless someone fancies somethimng we go at least 4 or 4 weeks before repeating something!! we all love all foods, even the kids and my husband loves cooking so we regularly try new recipies too.

we rely on reduced meat, fish etc so i would say our way was cheaper as we buy it at dearest for half price, more often than not a 3rd or less of original price and freeze it.

I shop nearly everyday so the whoopsie section sometimes dictates the meals.
