My mum always advised a slight alteration to 7 days and said... make it 8 or nine days... that way you don't always end up with the same meal the same day!!!

My ex-MIL did that, but the plan had never changed since my ex was a boy

As we always visited on a Saturday, you knew it was going to be stewing steak and veg, followed by blamange.

Even though ex had kindly said on the quiet that I can't stand blamange, she couldn't do anything else as they always have blamange on a Saturday, so I just had to keep forcing it down.
Here I go again on my own....

I have a semi-7 day plan in that we always have jacket spuds, with different fillings on a tuesday, pasta on a wednesday, fish on a thursady, HM "takeaway" type food on either a friday or a saturday & either SC meals, rice or salad based meals on the other days & a roast once a month. It saves me from having to think too much! That said, the actual content of the meal is varied week to week. EG : one wednesday we migh thave spag bol, the next tortollini & sauce, the next a tuna pasta bake etc. I have started monthly meal planning, some of our favourites like pasta bake & pizza are repeated but we have at least 20 different meals through the month.

I always sit down about 20th of the month and work out the entire meals for the following month. They usually are the same every month, but we eat more than 7 meals I think. I split them in different meats cos I have a bunch of meat eaters. Here's what I've got for March. Although there are similar things, i.e. spag bol/lasagne, mince and carrots/shepherds pie, hamburgers/meatloaf, they are a different way of cooking with the same ingredients. We're not eating them in this order, beef 8 nights in a row!

    Shepherds Pie
    Hamburgers
    Spag bol

I tend to stick to the same meals but change them slightly, eg have 2 roasts a week but with diff veg, hm chips and meatballs at least once a week,Jacket spuds but with diff fillings, Sat tea is always a cooked chicken with pasta salad, fresh bread but change the type of pasta salad and bread type.Quick and easy.
Other weekly favs are shep pie, meat and potaote pie, sausage and mash.
I think it all depends on how flexable your family are, my kids are not big curry, italian fans, so sometimes make them different to me and dh.
But i think i couldnt go to the point of knowing what we were eating everyday, i cook around what iv got in and bargins i get reduced.

My Mum - when we were younger. We knew what day of the week it was by what we were eating, never changed  She said it was because of her Mum with the war budgeting and eating it was so much easier.

I was just about to say that when I got to your post, makes life a little more interesting. When I was growing up, Monday always used to be chip night, mum would make 'proper' chips, always used to take the egde off that Monday feeling.
