Barclaycard PPI claim

Hi all,

Can anyone who has had a successful PPI claim from Barclaycard or anyone who is still waiting on an answer please help me out here.
I have just had a letter this week on the 8 week deadline date saying that as they are inundated with claims it is taking longer than the 8 weeks to investigate and resolve PPI complaints.

Do you know how much longer I should have to wait?

Thanks:)

  • I have also been waiting quite a while.
I sent the form in late January and received a letter in March apologising for the delay and saying they would contact me by 2nd April. I heard nothing until 12th April when I got a letter apologising again for the delay and saying that I could take it to the FOS if I want to but they hope I don't.
The second letter does not specify a date when I will next hear from them so I wonder if I should just wait or apply to the FOS.
I will wait a bit longer as I'm sure they are genuinely overwhelmed but by May I will apply to the FOS.

Thanks IN429...I too have had the same cycle of letters as you and this last one did not have a date on it either so I guess I'll have to just wait.
I have called them and they have advised that all they are waiting on is some info. from the sale from an internal dept. who are snowed under but as soon as they have this it won't take long to resolve so fingers crossed!

Hi, i am trying to claim back ppi from Barclaycard. My account was closed 6 years ago and i have found out from Barclaycard today that ppi was on from dec 01- may 03. They said to write and request a refund.
I don't really know what to put as a reason that i believe it was mis sold! I was young then and had no idea what ppi was so i definately wouldn't of asked for it. Does anyone know if it is already pre filled in when you apply? I can't remember as it was quite a while ago and i have no paper work. I have no idea if they rang and 'suggested' i add it on. What would be the best thing to say for my situation?
    Thanks

As someone who used to work in that department until very recently...all I can say is yes..they are incredibly inundated with claims to go through...each of which requires its own investigation. But rest assured, they aren't ignoring anyone. Each person has a number of claims that they are responsible for, which they check daily to see if anything can be resolved that day. The reason for the long wait is that there are certain records and evidence they need to have before they can make decisions, and these are determined by the FOS. I know that's not much help, I just get your frustration and couldn't resist shedding some light.

Strange how other large banks (HSBC etc) are able to respond within the specified time.

Well we were forced into taking out a Business Loan back in 1993 for 7 years, we didn't even know we had this insurance till seeing it on TV. We cannot find a policy, but we have the statements showing the one off payment for this insurance. They have turned us down 3 times because they say they cannot find the Policy. That shouldn't make any difference we can prove we paid it. Thinking of going to one of these firms now.

I can't comment on how other banks run their departments, but you may well be right, I can't say.

Efnewman...seriously...DO NOT use those firms. They do nothing except send in a generic letter that we've all seen a million times before - so much so that we know the letters off by heart now. Then they take a percentage of your money for something that you could just of easily have done yourself.

It's far better to write in yourself and just be honest in your recollection and try and recall as much as possible. If you say you have been told you do not have it, and you have evidence that you do, by all means send that evidence in!! Writing in again, but through a CMC will generate the same response as before. But you may be worse off for it. They do NOTHING to fight for your case. Literally...they just send a generic letter in and leave it at that.

No point in going to the "firms" as they can't force the Bank to find policies they say they don't have. You need to go to the Financial Ombudsman (it's free) and do it quickly as you only have six months from the date of the Bank's final response.

Hi and thank you for your replies. The FOC say it can take 12 months! We thought about Court and we were told yesterday the Court will do arbitration does anyone know anything about that? From what I have read Barclays don't need the Police, my husband was Self Employed, it was a 7 year loan and apparently most of these policies only cover for 5 years anyhow. We have all the statements showing the PPI payment so I can't see why they should need the policy, just a delaying tactic not to pay out it seems.

I've been waiting since July 2011.

They have all the info they need, including statements which they requested in February 2012, but still won't make a decision. That's 9 months and counting .....
