If you have friends who work on contracts it can be worthwhile to form a loose collective and agree terms together.

Nice approach. I can see this adding leverage

i moved accountants to someone who was quite a bit cheaper only to find that i had to chase them up on everything , i only stayed with them for a couple of months and then moved to my current accountant who is totally on the ball which is what i want , i would rather pay a bit more for someone i know will do the job and save me hassle than pay a bit cheaper and less efficient ,
  • The amount you pay seems REALLY good value.....I have a small ltd company (100k turnover) and I pay £400.00 or so....I just hand my accountant a shoe box with receipts and bank statements and he tells me my bill and does my payroll.

I know people who pay MUCH more than this!

Also if you are getting a good service then beware of changing to someone who might not be as good!

    £400 plus VAT a month ? or £400 including VAT a year ?

Have you looked at Crunch.co.uk? It is an online accountancy service some of my freelancer friends use.

I think they may have just launched a free service too.

Thank you to all your replies and thoughts.

I do get a really good service from NW and they are spot on with their timely reminders and processing of tax returns, self assessments and end of year accounts.

As I have had no issues with them I kind of expect other contractor accountants to be the same, naively, so why "rock the boat". I will stay with NW and be grateful that I am getting exactly what I pay for.

    Thanks again
