Hello,
Looking for competitive accountants.
Am currently with Nixon Williams but there fees are about to go up to £95 plus VAT (£114 in total) and would like to ask you if you know of other good accountants that offer a more competitive fee.
I came across Universa Tax who advertise a fee of £65 + VAT (£78 in total) so would appreciate feedback on your experience with Universa Tax as well and whether they are any good to deal with.
Thanks in advance

What is you need done? The bare minimum (end of year accounts) or everything (monthly management accounts, payroll, Vat Returns etc)?0

£95/yr is a bargain if it is year-end, VAT, payroll, etc. Or is that monthly or weekly?
It sounds like you have bought a package of services, it may be cheaper if you pay hourly instead and do some bits yourself (eg bookeeping, payroll and VAT)0 -
That kind of money is about average for contractor specialists to do the full package, i.e. payroll, annual accounts, annual tax, VAT, etc. I'm a competitor of Nixon Williams, so have to declare an interest. Our fees are similar but a bit less. If you're generally happy with NW, then I'd strongly suggest you stay with them. Nothing worse than saving a few pounds to suffer a poorer service and risk dodgy advice and ending up with paying too much tax and/or penalties etc. NW have a good reputation in the market. Think long and hard about risking a poor service!0

Oops and good question. With Nixon Willaims they do my monthly payroll and expenses, quarterly takes, self assessment and year end accounts"I think I spent 72.75% of my life last year in the office. I need a new job!!"0 -

Thank you Pennywise.
NW do provide me with a very good service but this is my first accountant (and first Ltd company). I have been with them for 2 yrs now and their fees will be going up to £95 p/m in June so wanted to consider other accounting practices who offer a similar service but cheaper.
I take your point of saving a few pounds for a poorer service. However with Universa Tax they will be charging £65 p/m so a substantial saving to be made if like for like. Just wondered if other people have used them or if there are other accounting firms I should consider who are comparable to the level of service offered by NW, but cheaper"I think I spent 72.75% of my life last year in the office. I also work for a competitor of Nixon Williams and have to agree with pennywise. You very much get what you pay for and contractor accounting can be quite specialist with issues such as the fun that is IR35 etc.
You do tend to find that your average high street accountant doesn't always have the correct expertise.0 -
If you have friends who work on contracts it can be worthwhile to form a loose collective and agree terms together.0

Do you have any reason to leave other than price?
If so then try to speak to them and see if they will reduce the price.
Perhaps try and agree something if you commit to a term or maybe pay up front.0 -

It is just the price.
I will certainly discuss with them and see if we can come to an arrangement on price.
Thanks"I think I spent 72.75% of my life last year in the office. I need a new job!!"0
