Halifax ISA Online

Hi. Sorry if this has been asked before, searched but couldn't find anything.

Last year I had the online ISA with Halifax and obviously the rate drops when the year is over. Well, I have opened the new one and am really struggling to transfer my cash from last years to the new one. Is it possible online?

Any help would be appreciated, I'm quite lost really!

Thanks in advance.

  • You don't need to open a new one. Just redesignate the existing one via http://www.halifax.co.uk/savings/accounts/cash-isas/ISAoptions/

Can close the one you've already opened - harmless unless you've already funded it with new money, in which case don't close it ! (ask for further details)

DO NOT MOVE THE MONEY FROM ONE ACCOUNT TO THE OTHER YOURSELF.

DO NOT FUND THE NEW ACCOUNT.

You will lose you tax free allowance for the previous year if you do this.

Just redesignate the existing one, keeping the same account details, via http://www.halifax.co.uk/savings/acc...as/ISAoptions/
  • Ok. Thanks very much both of you. I've redesignated the existing one.

Can I close the one that I opened (but didn't put money in) online?
  • I don't think you can close it online - I have a few Halifax accts I've been meaning to close but can't find an online option. (There used to be, before they changed the online system over to share Lloyds.) May need to go into a branch, or phone them, or write a letter, or something.

Opening and closing accounts won't affect your allowance : it's only when you pay new money into an ISA that you commit yourself in any way.

Visit to branch or letter in the post to close accounts.

    Progress at it's brilliant best!
  • I've been searching too and couldn't find any way of closing online.

    Thanks again.

I have the same issue coming up. Currently have a ISA Saver Direct which will lose its 2.75% bonus at the end of the month. Need to change it to a ISA Saver Online.

Whilst logged in to the Halifax Online Banking, I clicked on the Cash ISAs link under the Apply Online box on the right.

One of the options for applying ISA Saver Online is to convert an existing Halifax Cash ISA account to this account:

I'm assuming that's how you do it?

Yes. That link will (probably) just take you to http://www.halifax.co.uk/savings/accounts/cash-isas/ISAoptions/
You don't need to be logged in to use that page (you have to fill in all the details manually anyway).

Ah yes, the page on the link looks the same as I got.

I've been told (via phone) that the only way to close online accounts is to write in. Closure via branch is only possible for other types of accounts.
