JSA Sign On Falls On Bank Holiday, Never Get Money!

It's happened again!

They moved me a while ago from signing on from a Tuesday to a Monday. Since then whenever my signing day dalls on a bank holiday I get excused from signing on, but then I also dont actually get paid the money either.

I ring the "Benefit Enquiry" line and get told the evidence hasn't been put through. But I got paid for the first week (the one I did sign for) so why do they need to put the evidence through for the bank holiday (if you know what I mean). I have this problem every bloody time it's driving me insane!

Does anyone else have this problem or is it just unique to myself?

  • Well I used to sign on on a Monday and they used to arrange for me to sign on a Tuesday when it was a bank holiday. Next time you go in there mention it to them.
  • Use your common sense and ask to sign on before the Bank holiday when money is due to be paid. Friday perhaps. We have 4 bank holidays where this will happen. Talk to them and explain. Or ask to go back to a different sign on day! Whatever else you do, do not lose your temper with them and make sure that they process the info or your request there and then on their screens. I always did. The rules were the same as they are now, but I think due to cutback are being enforced more?
  • No, he doesn't have to go and sign before the Bank Holiday.

The evidence should automatically be entered by the Jobcentre for anyone who is due to sign on a Bank Holiday.

It is an error by the Jobcentre.

The best thing to do is to contact them on the Tuesday after the Bank Holiday to ensure they've done what they should have done, in order for the payment to be made later in week.

If a payment hasn't gone into your account on the day it's supposed to, and it's their error, then they will issue a same day payment into your account.

Exactly the same happens to me and I ring them and somebody will ring me back within the next 3 hours so I have to sit by the phone. They ring me back and it will be in my account today. And yes it does go into my account the same day but I do find it frustrating having to ring and chase. However on the bright side: I get excused from signing on for 2 weeks. :)
