Am I the only one who wouldn't have bothered claiming in the first place?

why on earth would you not claim? why pay for something year after year and not claim for what you are paying for? Insurance companies are all the same - money-grabbing liers who promise the earth before you buy and then spend all their energies on trying to avoid paying out. I had a loss adjuster come round who looked like he'd just come out of nick trying to tell me that the staining on my kitchen ceiling which had been caused by an overflowing water tank in the bedroom above had in fact come through the roof and managed to by-pass the first floor ceiling altogether and only show up on the ground floor. They try to put you off claiming by telling you that your premiums will go up next year if you do claim. we spent 18 months trying to get paid out when our car was stolen - excuse after excuse until I wrote directly to the CEO and got paid out within 3 days. Tried to claim for accidental damage to our dishwasher and was told to send off a cheque for £200 (the excess) first of all and when that was banked and cleared they would decide if it was repairable and if it was and the cost was less than the £200, they would keep the remainder. Scum of the earth

Wish i hadn't claimed but what do you pay your house insurance for? if not this kind of thing! Over the years have had things happen that i could have claimed for but replaced myself as didn't seem worth the claim.
This time i just don't have the funds to replace the cooker and flooring. Unfortunately I had lost most my hours at work and have now managed to get a second job but it is going to take a while before i have any spare cash, the last of it going on keeping my car on the road which i need for work!
Doesn't look like they're going to bother with the flooring but hopefully i will get the cooker sorted out next week although that could still mean a few weeks before i get a replacement(of their choice apparantly) or they may say replace the glass which hopefully won't happen as the knobs have melted, seal has melted and theirs a patch on the front brown from the flames.
Needless to say if i can get insurance elsewhere next year, I will but of course you don't know what any insurance firm is like until you have to make a claim!!

I just love it when the spam is so pi$$-poor dim-witted it forgets to put a link, or a searchable name in the post. Really makes you think these guys are on the ball. Mind you, I lost my umbrella once... d'you think these guys have it covered??

Well update if you can call it that!
On the 3rd May an engineer came out to look at the cooker and it was deemed uneconomical to repair.
Yesterday 11 May a carpet shop that is around 100 miles away came and looked at the vinyl and of course wouldn't patch it!
They've taken photos, measurements and chose a vinyl that will match my kitchen as I was at work but it is a nice pattern, also took a chunk out of the vinyl to compare thickness.
Still don't think the insurance will pay out for it as the vinyl has got a lot more damaged in the last 6 weeks due to glass getting stuck in shoes and scratching it and of course i moved the cooker to clean up glass and check behind and put a damn hole in the middle!
As for cooker rang the company that is now according to letter(3rd pass on) dealing with my claim! After what seemed like an age at my expense my report was found, at the bottom of a pile sat on the engineers(or someones) desk. Note on it said it had to be passed back to loss adjuster to make a decission!
So 6 weeks later I still have a damn dangerous glass spitting cooker in my kitchen and now have to wait for the report to be sent to the loss adjuster to make a damn decission! Then what? I got the impression(of what i was told) that the company the engineer works for will just replace the cooker with a like for like, so at this rate i may have one just in time for christmas dinner!!!
