thoughts on patching vinyl flooring? house insurance insisting on it

just want to know peoples thoughts on putting a patch in vinyl flooring? and would you accept it from a house insurance claim?
Few weeks ago i accidently set my cooker on fire resulting in glass shattering(grill door) and melting the vinyl flooring around 2ft x 1ft. and another small patch
I have put in a claim on my house insurance and they have got back to me today telling me to get a quote to put a patch in the flooring and to get a quote for the cooker glass to be replaced even though the knobs have melted, rubber seal has melted and the front is brown from fire damage. Sent more pics and hoping that they will pay for a new cooker as who wants one that looks fire damaged!
After arguing with the loss adjuster that patching the floor would look awful and getting nowhere I contacted a carpet shop. After the initial amusment at this I was told that it could be done but would stick out like a sore thumb
1. My vinyl is over 5 years old and had the usual wear and tear(sun etc) and the patch would be New.
2, probably couldn't get an exact match
3, would be able to see the join.

Really don't want it patching, the kitchen is only 13ft x 7 so not exactly asking for thousands. Anyone had theirs patched? Do I have to accept a patch or can i insist on full vinyl

    Would look ridiculous imo.

Try getting a couple of carpet companies round to quote for a patch, get them to write on their quote for replacing the floor that a patch is not possible due to 'matching existing vinyl', trip hazard or whatever.

IMO the insurance (assuming your covered for accidental damage) should be replacing the oven and the floor.

thanks, yes i am covered for accidental damage. Only had a few claims in the 20 years i've had insurance and never had anything like this. Been with this company for 3 years and first claim in 7 years. After a week of waiting for the claim form i was told the woman dealing with it was off so it wasn't sent. So got it emailed, strange damn form couldn't understand head nor tail of it. claim form had to go to a loss assessor and not the insurance company so its them that decide what to tell the insurance company.
Going to ring around on saturday as at work all week and see if i can get a quote for patching or hopefully a letter saying why they can't patch it. To be perfectly honest if they said they would patch it i wouldn't have it, who wants a patch in the damn flooring. I pay for new for old insurance and get offered a damn patch!! never even heard of patching before!

Did get so annoyed with the woman that i told her i'd buy it myself rather than have a patch! Also have a pigging cooker i can't get rid of until they make their minds up and its spitting out glass on a daily basis, have small children and cats walking around! certainly will be changing next year, if i can that is.

Tell them the floor is dangerous, you will get a contractor to rectify the situation and put the invoice in the post.

they should be renewing the whole floor covering not patching it up.

Yes, do tell us the insurance co. as it is definitely one to avoid! Would like to see any of the company employees who make such decisions, or any of the executives, living with a patched vinyl floor.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Have you phoned the insurance company directly? We had huge probelsm with our loss adjuster and when I finally snapped and phoned the insurance company they couldn't believe what was going on and resolved everything very quickly.
