Block withheld numbers on iphone?

Is there any way to block withheld numbers on an iphone 4? I'm with t-mobile and phoned to ask and they claim they can't do it. I have generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder so things like what happened earlier (withheld number, answered, no one responded) can really set me off.

I'd be willing to pay for an app to do this, but not jailbreak my phone (I don't go out, and wouldn't risk doing it myself). I don't mean blocking just one caller at a time, I mean a way to just reject all withheld numbers by default.

I signed up to ask here because when I googled I found a thread with a method for blocking withheld numbers from a landline, but not mobiles. Thanks.

Prefix the dialled number with 141 on a per call basis, or go into Settings, Phone, Show My Caller ID for all calls.

If T-Mobile don't support this and consequently divulge your number to the called party, then they are in breach of Regulation 11 of the Telecommunications (Data Protection and Privacy) Regulations 1999.
  • Sorry if I was ambiguous, I'm actually looking to prevent withheld numbers from calling me, not looking to withhold my own number.

Sorry, you were clear; I misread your question, as I had a problem with my number being divulged when I prefixed the caller's number with 141 when roaming on T-Mobile as an Orange customer.

I don't think any mobile network supports what you want at a network level.

Why don't you just reject any callers that withhold their number?
Record an announcement on your voicemail saying something like, "your call was forwarded to voicemail due to your number being with withheld, if you wish to speak to me, please call again releasing your number and you will be answered"

If I did that, would my phone ring when an anonymous call is placed? If not, could you elaborate on how to go about it please? It sounds ideal.

When you get a call, if the caller has withheld their number, it will say on your phone "withheld" or "private number" or something similar. Instead of answering it, just press the red button to reject the call.
  • Ah, that's no use... the point is that I don't want to have to do that.

There is no way to automatically block or reject anonymous calls on an iPhone (there are apps to do this on android phones though...just in case you want to consider changing your phone)
When using an iphone It will always involve manual intervention from you.
  • Hi,
Have been a big fan of MSE, happy to add some advice

There's one site that give you a number to forward your calls. Only problem is you usually have to be on contract for this to work. Anyway they can somehow unscramble the call to find out the phone number of the pranker.
