No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

no idea what my nerdnumber is - i am now officially nerd 229, no idea on my debt free date0 -
Wow - so many should respond to this - I know there are at least 5 who I would think could easily fit the bill (actually more than that!) so I hope that those who have done loads, don't feel shy and do respond to it.
I too am wondering what bad press - perhaps you could expand SS?

Why SS?
I'm now wondering what will be done with the details submitted and why it's being run - obviously it's great for people to be recognised for their dfw ways and I'd love to nominate so many people for being inspirational to me (and I'm guessing many others). Is it just a lovely thing to do, or will it be used for a tv/newpaper/book idea?

Forgot to say thank you for putting me on the spotlight guys

I'd love to do it but I am not a cow for publicity. Best of luck to all that apply - I am sure someone deserving will win!

Having thought about it I can certainly see your point SS
At the end of the day we DFWs support each other, supporting those who are in danger of becoming disheartened & cheering those who reach a milestone on their road to Debt-freeness.
By simply saying that the best DFW is the one that has paid off the most money, it doesn't take into account personal crcumstances2014 Target;

But isn't it just saying the one who has been the best debt dieter, rather than being the one who's paid off the most debts?
Some of the people i am thinking should go for this might not have paid much off but have made huge sacrifices to get where they are now...whlie also giveing FAB support to those of us (ie me!!:) ) who ask loads of questions and still get things wrong!

SS - to be honest I've not noticed any bad publicity. I'm a little bemused about what you're talking about?
This site has been on the front page of national newspapers 7 times in the last week - its had more publicity than ever (do a search on moneysavingexpert in google news and you'll see - its phenomenal) and its all good. The site has had its busiest week in history, the server have been nearly squeezed!
This contest has been planned for months - the only reason its now is we have the MoneySaver contest with MoneyWise and I've been sorting out that they dont clash.
My aim for doing this is simple. While bank charges and council tax have had huge coverage - its not the loud bangs I'm most proud of its the background noise of people slowly improving their finances.
I've always been very very proud of this board. And I thought the Debt Dieter contest would be a great way to show people that there is a way out. Most TV programmes on debt concentrate on the dire consequences but without looking at the solutions and success stories. The site and this forum in particular are inspirational and so I thought it'd be great to mimic slimmer of the year to show people how it can really be done.
It's also a useful exercise to help DFW the book.
So please folks enter away, though as I say in the contest rules, you must be prepared to go public - thats the quid pro quo of the contest. The aim is to be the inspiration for many people - but they can't be inspired unless they know who you are

Didnt miss london do very well with paying off her debts?????????????
Martin, I think this is a fantastic idea and I reckon it will motivate people for next years competion.....0 -
Hi, I also think this a good idea although I can see SS point of view to a certain extent.
I didnt see or hear any bad publicity myself and also Matched Betting has warnings on that forum anyhow as it is not a money saving thing to do. No one should be on there if they cannot afford to cover the losses they may take.
Also I agree that this forum does work as a support network and I would hate for people to stop offering advice in the future as they are interested in becoming next years champion.
I will not be entering as I made a complete hash of my money saving and ended up in further debt this year back im firmly back on track now
gl to the rest of you and I agree that I-A stands a great chance
