Keep the auction running and pretend you didnt read the message in time. Wait til there is another bid then send a reply saying sorry just got your message cant stop the auction the other bidder has just had his leg off.

I wouldn't sell either. Yes, a lot of people are honest, but there are a fraction that aren't. And the emotional angle isn't a good reason either!
Thank you to everyone who posts comps! :A

I can never imagine putting that in a message and I think it is disgraceful as they are obviosuly trying to get them cheap by putting you on a guilt trip. I would just ignore the message and delete it and if they mail again say it never arrived. If they ask about selling tell them that 'no sorry, I really need to cover my costs if I can as this was a treat for my son so the money I get will be for another gift for him instead or so that I can rebook'. DON'T feel guilty about it either.

On another note - make sure you note in your description that you are selling these genuinely as if people think you have bought the tickets to tout they will not be interested. Another thought is that you might want to add a BIN to cover the costs of the concert and the expenses - maybe add £20 on - that you lost through not being able to go and state this in the listing. My friends mum bought tickets a year in advance to see Cliff but the lady she was going with was having chemo by the time it came around and could not attend. I had a look round on eBay and they weren't even selling at half the ticket price so we took the plunge and listed for 5 days to make sure any sale would see them arriving on time, we explained why we was selling by explaining that the lady was ill and that we had added a BIN which reflected the costs, booking fees etc, lost through not being able to go. They sold within 8 hours. I was stunned when the confirmation came through but it just goes to show that people will not buy from touts and prefer to buy off someone who is genuine and cannot attend for a reason.

There is no dilemma  You have listed your item in an auction - by definition highest bidder wins - to do any different would be 100% morally wrong and I am pretty sure against ebay rules.

Again there is no Dilemma and only one honourable course of action - the emotional blackmail , apart from possibly being bogus, is irrelevant.
Hate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing
    Do little and often
Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying

Do you have any watchers?, if not I may be inclined to say call it £45 and it's a deal. If it means taking the kids out of school you may not get a good price for them anyway.

I think if the buyer really wanted to play the sympathy card then she would not have said it was a benign tumour ..she/he would have gone the whole hog and said it was something worse. The OP did not say when the auction is actually due to end - I have had a child that had surgery and know that it would be a nice thing to do before they went in to tell them there was a treat waiting for them. The parent cannot say this unless she actually has won the tickets as that would be cruel in case she does not become the winning bidder. It is sad in this day and age that no-one can trust anyone - if it is a fact that the OP does not want to sell for £40 and wants more..then OK, dont consider the buy it now price...but if they would be happy with the £40 then why not??
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)
