My breadmaker has arrived! Can anyone suggest which brand ingredients to use?

I've got my Panasonic SD253! I can't afford it, but when I read the reviews AND when I looked on the Tesco website and noticed the % of salt in bread compared to the % recommended for kids, especially, I figured it'll be worth it.

I was just wondering which flour/yeast/milk powder, etc you'd all recommend? We're on a budget, but I'm hoping to get the best results poss as cheap as poss, iyswim?! Tesco do their own yeast but I noticed that they sell Allinsons yeast quite a bit cheaper. It's so much cheaper that it's made me very suspicious of it..!

I'm so dying to get cracking, I just want to get the stuff and get baking, but it's difficult too as I have bloomin bursitis in my hip, a newborn baby and a toddler, so supermarket shopping is a thing of the past. I'm hoping to risk it tomorrow though just so I get get started - Tesco is miles away from us, though, Morrisons and Sainsburys are easiest, anyone recommend owt from there to tide me over, that is, assuming Tesco is the one most folk'd usually recommend?

Just placed Tesco order online day before yesterday and the shop is miles away, so it'd be at least next week when I got chance to order again. Sigh.

When I got my Panasonic breadmaker (you will love it by the way!!!) the cheapest strong white bread flour was at Lidls (SP?) for 49p. Don't know where the cheapest was for the rest of the ingredients. I just got them with my normal shopping.

For white bread I use Lidl strong bread flour 54p mixed with tesco value plain. For brown or wholemeal use Tesco own brand. I presume Asda and Morrisons do their own too. I buy seeds from Julian Graves when they're on Bogof.

Make sure you get a good quality yeast. I buy Allinson. Too many times i have ended up with a brick when i have used super markets own.

Don't know if this is the cheapest, it's probably not, but I find it cheaper and better than buying bread!

- yeast - Hovis is on 2 for 1 at Morrisons - I know some people say they can get it free from their supermarket bakery
- flour - I use Lidl plain white and mix it with a "fancier" granary or wholemeal to make the expensive stuff last a bit longer.
- milk powder - any supermarkets own
- honey - I put this in instead of sugar, again just own brand
- oil from Lidls instead of butter - corn oil i think

Also I buy seeds wherever I see them on offer and put a mixed handful in the dispenser.

The Hovis bread flour is also BOGF in Morrisons white & wholemeal I think it was 79p for the white & £1.09 for the wholemeal.

i tend to get own make bread flour morrisons/tescos or sainsburys depending where i am at time,i use hovis dried yeast,not sure if stores do own makes,and i use marvel dried milk powder

If you can get hold of it, Doves farm do a "block" vaccuum pack of 125g Quick yeast that lasts for ages longer than the little sachets, I mean months. . You can get it in Lakeland, Tesco etc should be about 99p.

Don't buy that Dried Yeast that comes in a round tub though, not suitable for breadmakers. Check it says "for breadmakers" on the packet. I only did that once...

Asda had Doves Farm wholemeal flour at 79p for 1.5kg last week too.

actually I use the tesco bread mixes as they are cheap starting at 58p and you can get quite a variety, my son loves the cheese and onion one, and the wholemeal breadmix isnt bad either, tesco.com online shopping, great stuff.
