Strange T-Mobile dispute

My partner was contacted by her bank today informing her that T-Mobile have taken money (£16) out of an account she has not used since 2008. The bank have subsequently charged my partner a further £10 for not having enough money in the account and going overdrawn. The annoying thing about this whole situation is that firstly the account has been inactive and secondly at no time has my partner ever been a T-Mobile customer. She has been with Vodafone since May and before that was with Orange for more than 10 years.

When she contacted T-Mobile about the issue they denied all knowledge of taking the money and just to be sure she contacted Orange to see if it was an oversight on their behalf. So essentially my partner is baffled and £26 out of pocket and whilst this might not seem like a lot of money to some, it is to her and obviously the principle of the whole taking of the money is something we'd like to address.

If someone could offer any advice it would be very much appreciated.

John

I'm presuming that this money was taken via direct debit, in which case make a direct debit guarantee claim via th bank to reverse the transaction.
Hopefully you should then be able to explain to the bank the situation as technically this transaction will then be reversed.
Once this is complete, then make sure that the bank properly close the account.
  • Thank you Tony, we will try this.

In some cases even a closed account may be debited if the payment is valid, and the bank chases you. Usually if you signed a continuous payment mandate on a card.

strykerlad's partner also need to WRITE to TM stating the issue and asking them to investigate so it's formally on their system of this error.
