I noticed I can sign up for Primus Line Rental only for £8.99 a month via their website with a new line installation. (already phone line in the property).
I have also noticed that I can get the same Primus Line Rental for £6.79 via Broadbandchoices website. The only problem is, the site only allows me to do a switch, not a new installation.
Is there any way to get a new line on the £6.79 deal?

Hi mate. I'm in the same boat and am interested in moving to the £6.79 Primus deal too but it appears you have to already have an active line to take advantage of that particular special offer.
There is an offer with Primus for two months free (with £30 TCB / Quidco) on the £8.99 deal which includes activation but that involves an 18 month.
Best bet is to do what I'm doing and join Post Office Home Phone first. Their monthly line rental is £12.25 and they will activate your line free of charge and until 20th May they will also install a free line too. Furthermore Post Office Home Phone doesn't involve a minimum term contract so as soon as you're signed up and activated you're free to move to whoever you want.
Check out my deal on HUKD regarding Post Office's free BT Openreach line installation offer.

Please note the P.O. may charge a £15 cancellation fee if you cancel their Landline within 6 months.(also mentioned in the 2nd post on that hotdeals link).0

The £6.79 deal is not advertised by Primus and appears to be only available through a 3rd party switching agent. If you use Primus a lot during the day you need yo be very careful if you intend to make calls to mobiles (16p/min + connection charge), 0845/4, 0870/1 (non-geographical) numbers which are expensive and will soon erode any advantage in using this package compared to other providers.such as BT.. You will also pay heavily for daytime calls to geographical numbers (7.40/min + connection charge). Evening and weekend geographic phone calls are cheaper (2p/min + connection charge)
In short I wouldn't touch this particular package with a bargepole, unless you use it to make as few short calls.as possible.0 -
Or you can use 18185 to reduce your call costs. If you make sufficient evening and w/e UK 01/02/03 calls then the £7.99 option via Homephonechoices would probably be a better deal. Other charges the same.0

If you aleady have a phone line installed would there be any need for a 'new installation'?

This would be for a new apartment. It has a line in with a dial tone but no account on it e.g. can't make any phone calls. This is what I meant by installation - no account to switch.
Also it is just for line rental for broadband usage. Won't be used for phone calls. I get 1000 mins a month on my mobile contract, and coupled with SayNoTo0870, I'm covered for all my phone call needs.0 -

Hi Lee,
In this situation, dial 17070 from the landline. That gives you the option of finding out the phone number on that line.
Then you can take the number and switch to whatever provider you want.
There are times when you cannot find an alternative number on saynoto0870.
At such times, it's handy to have a landline available.0 -
I've tried 17070 and it just has 2 options for line test. No number given. Even on another landline.0

Tried 150?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Or 1470-17070.0

It's possibly cable and/or the previous subscriber took their number with them.. Most companies will charge for "re-activating" a line. Sometimes special offers mean they will do it at a reduced price or for free.
But if it's Cable and you want ADSL (or visa-versa), then it's a new line install which may or may not be chargeable depending on current offers from the various providers.
If it's a line for ADSL that you want, that P.O. deal that's been mentioned may be the best bet even if the existing line is BT that needs re-activating. However if you find out that it's a BT line, you could ring Primus and see if they would charge for re-activating and getting a new number if you were signing up through Homephonechoices. I wouldn't mention that you want broadband unless you want TalkTalk LLU which is what they use if it's available in your area, but then the charges are very different, see their website.0
