Advice about Sky

So ive been with sky for about 6 years now, i have a sky plus box and i have all the sport and movie channels. My problem is over the last month or so my sky box keeps making some strange noises and gets kind of pixelated, when i record things on certain channels it also doesnt play back very well. At first i thought it was the signal but we tried my brother in laws box just to test it and it worked fine so weve established the box is on on its way out.

I rang sky to ask them for a new one and they told me i had to pay something like 60 quid. Personally i dont think i should pay anything because ive been a loyal customer for so long. Could anyone any offer advice or know of a way to get a replacement box off them for free?

Thanks

ring them and say that although you love your sky you cannot afford to spend £60 to repair your box and so you will have to cancel your account. They may offer to do the call for free. It worked for me last year.

My main TV has just stopped working and I'm having to watch Sky on a 14 in CRT portable, can't even get freeview on it, do you think if I phone up Sky and threaten to cancel they would give me a new 40 in LCD TV to replace my broken 32 in freeview HD LCD TV?

Sky are a business,in it to make money, not giving away free kit to everyone who's a 'loyal customer'...I an millions like me are also loyal customers & still have to 'grin & bear it'.
Say you have been a customer with Vodaphone & regulary top up £15 a month on P&G,after 6 years your old 6 year old Nokia that you got for free when you signed up broke, would you expect Vodaphone to give you a free replacement mobile phone?...

Forget loyalty with SKY!!!! - as other posters have said just phone to cancel because your box has failed and you aren't prepared to pay ..but you MUST be prepared to carry it thru if they don't offer free call out or some sort of retention deal.

If you can't blag a free replacement (which you should be able to as above), then Sky+ boxes are next to nothing on eBay, or free on freegle.
All the equipment is yours from day one, (it's not leased from Sky), and once the 12m warranty expires, it's your responsibility to maintain it.
If they replace it you'll only get a refurb anyway.

There is a VERY high chance if you tell them you want to leave they will give you a replacement box. But as has been said you must be prepared to take it all the way to disconnection - what have you got to lose, you can always re-connect or cancel the disconnection a couple of days before the end date.

If you sign for another year you should get a new box anyway.

The example of a phone company replacing the handset being unlikely is not relevant. Sky works very differently and needs to maintain subscriber figures, if you're out of contract on sky they want to keep you and get you to sign for another year.

Anyone staying with sky for 6 years and not getting a new box at least every 2 years and or not negotiating a discount is missing out.

I'm surprised at you Gratis, setting your sights so low as a mere 60"...
I'd demand one of these 108 " ones (assuming that you can get it through the door). And maybe a 60" for the shed...

    Thanks for the advice guys.

Just out of interest if i did call them and threaten to leave but then that method doesnt work and they just say bye, how long can you leave it to rejoin sky and do you get any offers if you are a returning customer and not a new customer?
