The Isle of Wight. Its easy to go as a foot passenger from Portsmouth, and once you're there the public transport is great. Loads to see and do (especially walks and beaches) and it's one of the sunniest places in the UK.

Norfolk! Easy to get to from London with lots of choice. The Broads, the coastline, the inland scenery plus lots of lovely little pubs and places to see.
I would reccomend the North Norfolk coast from Sheringham going east
I worked in Norfolk for over a year and enjoyed it immensely. The bus/train lines are reliable and go all over the county.0 -
Another recommendation for Llandudno, depending on your starting point. If you are based in the south then Cornwall.0

I would say Exmouth, Devon.
You can get a train to Exeter, then a train to Exmouth. Its a really pretty seaside town.0 -
Sorry I forgot to mention I'm in birmingham. The advice has been great so far.0

Aviemore in Scotland. Which would be Birmingham to Edinburgh then onto Aviemore.
The Lakes - Oxenholme requires no change or you can get the local train after Oxenholme to Windermere.
Christchurch on the south-coast. Some lovely beaches.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -

From Birmingham I'd go for the Cambrian Coast - somewhere like Barmouth or Fairbourne. Both have decent enough beaches if the weather is nice for sitting on a beach, but there are also plenty of walks ranging from the old railway line towards Dolgellau (if you want flat and easy) to the foothills of the mountains above Fairbourne, Arthog etc. Its possible to walk into Dolgellau if you are reasonably fit - a nice drink on the waterside at the GeorgeIII at Penmaenpool on the way lubricates things (or you could just stop there and head back!), cut off at Arthog to go up the waterfalls towards Cadair Idris (nice wooded walk up there), plus you have the panoramic walk above Barmouth plus various others.
You can also use the train to potter up and down the coast to places like Harlech (castle), Portmadog and with a bit of a walk Portmeirion (from Minffordd station). There are also various narrow gauge railways that run from places on the coast line that will also give you trips to other parts.Adventure before Dementia!0 -
I agree with Swanage - so much to do in the area by bus or steam train tooYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0
